Hey Mods ... do we need to back off?
Absolutely not.
Not sure what makes you say that.
If it is related to the dozen or so "cutler" threads that were out there, I merged all of them into one. Not only was the original post repetitive, so were most of the responses.
Hey Loki,
What I am talking about is how the board slows down on gameday and you cant get into the chatroom because microsoft sends an alarm
that says the board is overloaded ... just thinking its too many threads taking up too much space. Maybe not.
I should have taken notes of the microsoft alarm, if it happens the next gameday I will note it and tell you.
Well, the "chatroom" no longer exists (even though the button/link on top does). It has been replaced with the "gameday chat" feature in the shoutbox.
Threads do take up space, but their existence doesn't consume very many RESOURCES. Things like server speed, server memory, etc... are resources that can be affected by the number of users at one time (and we'll always have more users during a game), as well as what they are doing (chat takes quite a bit of resources to run).
Also having an effect on your speed? Things YOUR computer is doing. No matter how big your pipe is, each piece of data that fly's thru it makes just a little bit less available to everything else. If you're downloading a torrent at the same time you are viewing a youtube video while your facebook page is up and your in the DBS chat at the same time, that's a good combination of things to slow down each and everyone one of those things just enough to be noticeable. And if you're using IE, even more so.
Not saying you are, but just pointing out that speed of your DBS experience isn't always directly related to the speed of our servers. There are also other things involved.
Next time you get that MS alarm, screen-shot it and post it for me. I'd like to see it.
