What I think will happen after this season...
Smith - gone
Tice - gone
Marinelli - stays as DefCo
Bates - gets promoted as OffCo
Toub - stays
Emery will bring in his guy as HC and we may see a new D philosophy, but still a 4-3

I'm not saying that this is what I want to see. Just have a feeling that this will happen.
what wouldn't you like in this case?

Some of that is not so bad IMO

The ironic thing is that the catalyst for all of this would be the oline failure. Something Emery knew about going into this season, but failed to fix.
Emery has to share SOME blame here. Not all. But he is the captain of this ship. He should have seen this iceberg coming. Fix the oline.

Sure you can give him some of the blame. He is the man in charge, he wears the responsebility. However if your coach and OC says the Oline is fine, we just need guys to throw the football at. I/We? don't know if this is the case but it would seem so. I think as a new G.M. he did trust the people around him and fixed what they asked to be fixed.

Playing "worst case scenario", that is, this second game is what the Bears really are, i would want Bates gone, because the least talked about offensive woe is Cutler's sudden inability to look past his main target. With that said, give me Herm as HC, and his DC in '04. Also liked Schottenheimer when he was the Jets OC. He worked with a broken/horrible favre and loves to run. I like Toub, but the draft demands for this "dominant" st's every year must go by the wayside if it doesn't get us in the playoffs.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately.
How can you be GM and not understand that in 2010 we had the 31st rated oline in the NFL. And last year we were rated the absolute WORST oline in the entire NFL? That's 32nd out of 32 teams. It wasn't just at LT. Our whole oline needed better players (outside of Carimi and maybe Garza).
How can a GM not see this? How can a GM not understand this? It's not rocket science. If the oline is bad, then you have nights like last Thursday. Cutler can't use those fancy toys on offense. You lose games against good teams.
If I were a sports journalist I'd be holding Emery's feet to the fire until he explained just WHY he felt we didn't need to improve the worst oline in the NFL. And please, don't blame it on a coordinator (Tice). Is Tice now the GM?
Didn't think so.
It's not all on the coaches. Emery shares some blame here too. In the end, you have to fix your worst problems if you expect to win. You can't put 5 turnstiles out there and expect Cutler to shine.

I don't see anyone on this coaching staff staying except for Toub/Bates, if changes are made.
JABF, this might have been the subtle sabatoge that Emery wanted to be able to bring in his own guy(if you are a consiparacy theorist).
But most HC's are going to want to bring in their own guys also, so it's going to be interesting to see who wants to come in and work w/Bates

I believe he not only saw it, but he was told to address it.
I have nothing to back this up except my own beliefs, but I think when he want to find out what needed to be changed he was told that the players weren't the problem and Tice had who he wanted. He just needed more time with them. Lovie may have backed him up and then you have several other VERY pressing issues like WR, QB, DE, etc and you can't address them all anyway so you leave that one alone.
I may be giving Emery a pass when he doesn't deserve it, but I believe the blame lays with Tice and Lovie
