I know now is not the best time, but Tice was just too stubborn to try him out in the offseason. Carimi at LT with Scott at RT and Louis where he is sounds like it might be worth trying.

I'd be ok with that Houston. It can't be any worse than what we have now. Maybe start Edwin Williams at center too, if Garza has done "the Kreutz" thing and tanked.
This oline is going to have to eventually be rebuilt around Carimi and Lance Louis. Everything else needs to be kicked to the curb at some future point.

The next draft had better be used to bring in legitimate OL starters. This lack of addressing our needs has to be stopped.

Hope so too, Ronz. Last year's draft was particulary weak on top-tier talent. Kalil, DeCastro, and Reiff were the only 3 OLs of any kind that were 1st rounders I believe. DeCastro got hurt in preseason and Reiff isn't starting anywhere on Detroit's line. That ought to tell you a lot about how thin last year's class was at the top.
There was some good "2nd-tier, potential starter" talent available in round 2 (Konz, Zeitler, Glenn, Osemele) but Emery felt he couldn't pass on Alshon. Saw him as a 1st round talent who fell unfairly due to a temporary weight issue and poor (new) QB play that really caused his stats to decline in his final year at South Carolina. I think he was right and we have all been impressed by what little we have seen of AJ preliminarily. Can't blame Emery for that...we needed another vertical and red-zone weapon and AJ is going to be a stud #2 WR for us.
Pretty safe to predict that OL and LB are going to be top targets for us next year so let's hope the draft class is deep in both.

To be fair to Reiff he's not starting b/c they brought back their LT who is a legit starter in the league. That is no proof that he couldn't have beaten out Webb or Williams. Also no way of knowing if Decastro would have gotten hurt if we drafted him.

I wonder if Webb will be better if the LG position is better.
I don't think any of us can argue that Spencer was bad, but Rachal does not seem to be the logical choice.
I wanted us to grab Rachal when he was drafted, so I hope he can be better than Spencer was.
Willing to give it the benefit of the doubt.
Not sure the Rams are the best team to evaluate him against.

Well let's take the one thing we know for certain and go with that that then.
J'Marcus Webb continues to show that he doesn't have "what it takes" to play at this level week in and week out. I'm not certain of Scott's ability to do it either but since he's managed to hang around this league for as long as he has that at least tells me he's found a way to at least be consistent enough to hold onto his job some of the time. Maybe he can play LT better that Webb and maybe he can't but at some point it has to at least be considered.
They're trying Rachal at LG rather than moving CWill back there so that tells me as far as Tice is concerned CWill is still being considered at LT at least for the moment. Spencer has been useless as a run blocker which is supposed to be Rachal's strong point but since Rachal is a notoriously poor pass blocker I don't really see where replacing Spencer with him is gonna give us much help over there on pass plays.
So basically LT is still a work in progress with three possibilities. I think we'd all like to see Webb man up and become the guy but something tells me it's a losing battle. There's just something not right about him. He's like a big overgrown kid playing in a man's game. I really do believe he has a mental disorder or some kind of learning disability which is why he got bounced out of the U of Texas. He couldn't hack it scholastically and that school isn't known for graduating football players who become Rhodes Scholars so that should give us all some idea of where Webb rates as far as his intellect and ability to learn are concerned.
I keep reading where Jay Cutler always has his worst showing is big games yet no one seems to connect that with the fact that his line and Webb in particular also choke at that very same time. Ya' think maybe that has a little something to do with it? I mean geez how thick headed can those writers and talking heads be? The guy can't pass, block and catch all by himself. I guess it's an easy conclusion to draw when you're as lazy as they are about getting down to the facts.
All of the facts that is.
We've all seen what Cutler can do when he has time to throw to open receivers. In fact we've even seen him throw passes to guys who were covered about as good as anyone could cover a receiver and still get the ball to them. We've also seen him make some incredible plays on the run but a QB can't be running for his life on every God damned play all game long. Nobody has that kind of stamina.
Give Cutler time to stand in the pocket and throw or call some planned roll outs and waggles to compensate for the rush and he'll make Rod Woodson eat his words. Maybe Rod forgets that he once played with the most infamous bad decision maker and thrower of picks the NFL has ever seen and that guys is gonna end up in the HOF. When you force your QB into having to make bad throws or lose ten yards every time he drops back to pass why expect anything different.
I've said this before. This is the beginning of Jay's fourth season in Chicago and we have yet to provide him with a line who can consistently give him protection. How would you all perform at your jobs if some irate customer or client was in your face every time you sat down to get something else done? That's what you have receptionists or and administrative assistants for.
Maybe it's time we asked the defensive pass rush reception committee to do their jobs for once so that our QB can get his job done. Continuing to saddle Jay Cutler with the blame for every bad game we play isn't getting to the root of the problem.

I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.
Honey Badger Don't Care. Honey Badger Don't Give a Shit.
id love to see this as a line up just for a few snaps
Carimi / CWills / E. Williams / Louis / Scott

On a side note, I was disappointed with Rodreguez' blocking too. I realize he's a rookie and should get better. But he needs work.
Go Bears!
