These replacement refs are pretty bad. It's not just the Bears games. Yes, the regular officials sometimes screwed up, but not like this. Not this bad. Not this often.
These are billionaire franchises. The NFL generates 16 billion dollars in revenue annually. That's BILLION with a "B"
To pay the refs what they want is "chump change" to these owners. They are just being greedy.
Funny how the players are worried about their safety, while all the while taking full advantage of the situation to hurt eachother, hypocritical much?
these refs suck, but it's to be expected, they are replacement refs. The refs need to come off their stupid demands and the league needs to pay them better. But both are at fault for this issue, not just the Commish.
The replacement refs have NO respect by the fans, players or coaches now. They can try to spin this any way they want, but I know what my own eyes see. It's total incompetance in game after game.
Just wait. You WILL see some games this season where teams will be denied wins due to the ref's incompetence. The result of a win going to a loss column can cost a team the playoffs and/or a division title. Can you IMAGINE how crushing that would be to experience - if it is our Chicago Bears?
And I'm tired of people telling us that the "real" refs would be just as incompetent. That's not what my own eyes are seeing. Don't piss on me and try to tell me it's rain. These guys are horrific.
One other point. It's just a matter of time before we witness one hell of a fight between two teams on the field that will result in wholesale suspensions on both teams. This too can alter a season for a team. And don't kid yourself that the Bears players would never get caught up in a fight like this. Lovie is chill, but these players get amped up to the max in game situations.
The league makes $16 billion dollars in profit annually. These are billion dollar businesses. It's time to throw a bone to the refs. The "real" refs. And get rid of these buffoons who shouldn't be reffing Pop Warner games.
JABF, so in your opinion no reg official has cost any team a game, no reg official has ever blown an obivious call? B/c I know for a fact that isn't the case. These replacements are bad, but they are not making the game unwatchable. And this is not a case of the NFL being unreasonable.
The Refs have to lay off some of these stupid demands. I'll ask you and anyone else bitching about this to state that you think the refs should be given what they want and the NFL is just being stubborn and putting their game at risk for no reason:
Full pension for part time workers(these are a thing of the past in any business world why is this a sticking point w/the refs).
Pay increase for the officials(okay i'll say this is legit)
No full time refs, all refs should remain part time(nfl wants at least a partial full time crew, i'm down w/all refs being full time)
No bench refs; ie no nfl refs in training hired by the nfl, and once up to speed can replace refs that are not doing an adaquate job. Also nfl would hire and train refs instead of brining them up from lower levels.(sorry but again the reg refs are brutal at what they do also, so if one shows to be consistantly bad, bring in a new one, i'm down w/this not to mention being able to get a new crop of officials going sooner will allow them to be able to get up to speed quicker when they are finally given a shot).
So b/c these replacements are bad, the NFL should just give into the refs and pay them more, give them a pension, and trash their ability to create higher quaility officials in the future.
Those are good points Ric, and of course there should be some "give" and compromise on both sides. When I watch these replacements though my blood pressure goes to stroke level. My thinking is:

3. The league can solve this now, and the financial impact on these billionaire entities would be "chump change" to them.
Let's hope the two sides can get it together. I'm sick of watching the bumbling replacement refs right now.
Besides, I need my Ed Hochuli fix......he's probably blown up those guns even more during the lockout :lol-032:
ESPN M&MITM showed that outside of PI calls, the # of calls has been pretty much the as same over the last 3 weeks as the the refs have done in the past.
I disagree w/astronomical. Reg refs made very costly calls every week. These guys are undeniably worse, but my expectations have been right where I thought they'd be. Bad, lumbering, but not wretched.
50 million is not chump change to anyone; even billionaires. And the reason for that is b/c they don't spend it lightly. They'll give 50-100 mil to athletes in a minute b/c they know the RoI is likely going to be in their favor. But they aren't going to give 50 mil(again this is the nfl estimates not saying it's accurate but I think it shows the pension+salary is a big deal) for 173 people that no one buys merch for.
50,000,000 divided by 32 owners is 1,625,000 per owner

4,200,000 times 8 games 33,600,000
I think they can afford it without noticing much
Benj, it's a poor investement. you don't put 50mil into something that gives you zero return.
Again the Refs need to come off their stance. They deserve a raise. They shoudl all be making 6fig's.
but no to pensions
yes to full time refs
yes to getting ref training at the nfl level and having a reserve group that can come up and replace poorly performing starting refs.
Personally I am on the owners side because I hate unions. Last week the teachers of chicago went on strike over more money and I think Unions are worthless. If I were an owner I would be like FU, refs, we can replace your ass with someone that wants your job. Second since the NFL makes billions why should they pay extra to a group of people throwing out demands? In my field if I were to go on strike I would just be replaced with someone else looking for a job. Let the refs find another job that pays them well. I bet if there were not a union a lot of these refs would be working right now.
What do the owners get out of it if they pay it? Personally i would fire them all and replace them with someone that wants to work.
