    What we learned

Now that's a game. All day I heard analysts say this game would go to the team who's ol held up the best and to the qb who kept his cool the best, tonight that went to the Chi OL and Cutler.

Chicago O: Said it each week, said it all pre season and I'll say it again, this OL will take this team as far as it will go. Webb was asked to go 1 on 1 w/a great DE in ware and held is own. Tonight there was a clean pocket, and when there wasn't the back picked up the pressure; also Cutler didn't hold onto the ball to long, he found the open man and got the ball to him. Dallas sold out to pressure the qb and stop the run, and Cutler burned them all night b/c of it. Hester is better at catching the ball when he's turned to face it; first deep pass had to find it over his shoulder(might have been a poor pass by Cutler but lets put it on DH for arguments sake) Hester didnt get to the spot he was expected to be at, but his TD catch had him facing the ball and he got it. Put him in a position that allows him to succeed and he will be okay. Kellen Davis has taken some crap lately b/c of his inability to get the ball and block. Well after that first drop he decided to show up; and actually flat stole a int from the Def to save Cutler. Marshal, Jeffery both showed up big also. Amazing how open Marshal can get when the D knows he's not always the first/only read. Teams now have tape that says if you put 8 in the box you will find yourself in a heap if you don't get to Cutler early and often.

Chicago D: Throw it, they dare you to. Dallas never tried to establish the run, but when they tried to run it was shut down; early on the run D actually looked better then the pass D. Ulracher looks like he's returning to form, P-Nut showed up big, same as Briggs, Jennings, Wright, Conte, Moore and the rest of the D. The DL could not get pressure very often(neither DL could really which is a huge suprise) but the rest of the D showed up big regardless. The D played standard bend but don't break and let the O screw up; and the O did more often then not. Romo's first few TO's probably not on him, but the last few definately were, the pressure mounted and he started forcing the ball and that was the game; Cutler watch the tape on Romo and see how you cannot react to poor play and big deficits

Chicago ST: Gould per usual is awesome. Time to stop thinking Hester is bound to break one though, he's not...not sure why but I don't hold my breath anymore in anticipation, not sure if he just doesn't have that speed, or he doesn't have the vision anymore or if the guys around him just aren't capable of getting on the blocks enough but he's not that guy.

Chicago Coaches: For once they had a better game plan and had their team more prepared, it was nice to see.

Dallas O: feel free to try and make a D guess what you want to do, Romo can be a decent qb, but when the D knows your going to throw it 30-40 more times then run it, well most qb's not named Brees, Brady and Rodgers are going to struggle...and sometimes they will too. again their OL has struggled, but played okay. Murray is a solid RB but needs to be used more; ecspecially to save Romo from himself, man that looked like Cutler in the GB game to a tee, first few TO's just made him force the ball more and more, and he finally broke. Man that WR core is over rated; well at least Dez is...how you would target him so much more then Austin..and ignore guys like Ogletree in favor or Dez THAT much is beyond me; not to mention ignoring the run game in favor of throwing it to a guy that cannot run a hot route.

Dallas D: This is a D that got wore out by being on the field...and the DB's were already suspect due to inj's. W/their inability to presure Cutler he was able to just toy w/the DB's. Worse yet the D dedicated itself to not letting Chi run and Cutler made them pay. cannot believe they made no adjustments to stop that.

Dallas Coaches: wow, just wow. How can you spend so much time yelling at a ref for a bad call, and almost forget to throw the flag...seriously. They were out coached and that alone should put them all on the hotseat b/c Lovie and Co. so rarely show themselves and heads and tales above their opponents.

Yeah Ric I think the ST blocking doesn't give that "feel" that Hester is going to break it. With the Jags and the bye week coming up I suspect that Toub will work on just that.

They should etch looking at Marshall as the second read. Just that small thing really helped the passing game looking elsewhere.

When it looked like they were falling in love with screen passes too much early (3 in a row, seriously?), and a not great first half, made the adjustments they needed...

Hats off to the O-line providing enough protection for Jay. Still saw Cutler throwing off his back foot a bit more often than I'd like. There were a few passes that were thrown behind the receiver, need to check if Jay was putting them "where only a Bear could make a play on it" or just plain behind. Kudos to KD for making a bunch of good plays tonight. Particularly on the prevented int.

Great overall game by the defense made this game so much easier for the Bears. Biggest concern there is that I don't think #54 ('Lach) is up to full speed yet.

Ref's missed a rather flagrant offensive hold/face mask on someone (91? okoye?) but other than that fairly well called. No botching of major calls.

Happy for the Bears win on the big stage. Would like to see the Offense play a bit cleaner, and be able to carry the team to more wins. Things are looking up here.

Umm, I wish we would have gotten more than one sack against such a poor offensive line. That's my only gripe. Great game. Jay took what they gave him and waited for downfield passes to open up. He didn't force anything or make mistakes. The offensive line played really well, too. The run game still wasn't great, and hopefully Forte is 100% by the time we face Detroit in three weeks.

To be fair, our OL only gave up 2 sacks...it seemed both OC's made sure the OL was put in good positions tonight, lots of help, lots of quick passes, and Romo is good at avoiding the rush by moving in the pocket, or just getting the hell out of it. Shea was pushed inside quite often to help Romo move out more easily.

Jay did throw off his back foot, and forced a few passes, but he made 2-3x's more good decisions then bad ones, and that's what you need in today's NFL gunslinger.

I will sleep well all week after this one.
Not sure that I learned anything, just sat back & enjoyed.

I thought the o-line had their best week so far, even though the rushing yards might not reflect that.
The blocking upfront was great though.

Cutler too. Nothing forced & on target tonight.
Well, there was that one throw late, where Davis appeared to be blanketed, the ball got defected and Davis caught it on his back. A bit of luck & also a bit of being good.
A nice game for everyone catching the ball.

What can you say about getting 5 ints.......not necessarily pressure based picks, more because of great coverage & being in the right place all night.
Textbook Briggs & Tillman night. Good stuff.

Ric... I hope you watched this game closely. You were really hard on Cutler. Did you see what he can do when his line gives him some time? When he Receivers fight for the ball and when they don't drop easy catches? When the gameplan makes sense and play up for our strenghts?

This is what I learned. Give Cutty the time and play to your strenghts like every fucking team does
