Free fall for Bears' Chris Williams continues
Makes you wonder what the REAL problem is here.

Former first-round pick a healthy inactive as Scott gets opportunity
Former first-round pick Chris Williams continued his free fall as the offensive lineman was inactive for Monday night's game against the Cowboys.
"Of course I was disappointed," Williams said. "It came as a surprise to me, but it was Coach's decision."
Williams wouldn't reveal the reason behind the decision.
"That's kind of between me and the staff," he said. "I was informed of the reason. That's it."
Williams, who saw action in the team's heavy package during the first three games, found himself in street clothes despite being healthy. Veteran offensive lineman Jonathan Scott, who signed with the Bears on Sept. 10, was active for the first time this season.
Williams lost the starting left tackle job to J'Marcus Webb during training camp. Williams started at left guard last year before suffering a season-ending wrist injury.
Williams' career got off to a rough start in 2008 when the 14th overall pick missed the first seven games of his rookie season after back surgery. Now it appears Williams' future in Chicago is in serious doubt.
His contract expires at the end of the season. Williams is due a base salary of $1 million this season.
"It's a business," he said. "You can't really let emotions get the best of you. It will all work itself out."

Barring some sort of injury that Chris Williams saves this team from, he is done. I'm glad this worked out the way it has. I wanted CW in competition at OT for his last year, and I got it. He could not get the job done, and instead of going back and sticking him in at LG before letting him walk, they went and tried the several guards we have first. I think there is real potential with Rachal at LG. At the end of the year, we should see the end of Spencer and Chris Williams's time with the Bears.
I'm wondering if Webb has managed to save his job, or if he is still on the hot seat with Scott breathing down his neck now.

That's my feeling too.

This is one of the biggest surprises for me this year. I never would have guessed that of all the linemen, Williams would lose his starting job and have fallen out of even dressing for a game. I'm still shocked.

If I were to guess I'd say he's butting heads w/Tice and he's tired of being dinked around. I think I'd say something too if I knew I was one of the better linemen on the team then asked to change positions in a "fair" LT competition. Then told can't go back to LG where you excelled and need to be a swing tackle. Maybe they will ship him so the team can get some value.
I'm not a huge Cwill fan but the dude was grossly mis-managed.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.

Yep, he and Danieal Manning were grossly mis-managed and had their careers stunted by constant swapping of positions. Manning got a shot w/ a different team, perhaps CWill will also.

I'm also wondering if this was a money issue. His contract is coming up. He's a 1st round draft pick that performed very well at LG last year, probably our most consistent lineman. He's not the LT we drafted him to be, so he's not going to get paid LT money. The Bears may feel like he's too expensive of an option for an interior lineman.
Maybe they want to use that money another way. But who knows? The Bears baffle me with things like this.

I was thinking along those lines also, but it wouldn't make sense to sit your best LG just for contract issues that would follow the season. I wonder if his wrist is causing him issues or something. If it were simply that they don't want to pay him LT money to play LG I would think they would wait until the end of the season to have that dispute and let him go then if they needed to. Benching him in order to keep him around for much less money isn't making any sense to me. There is still the possibility that he would pick up a better contract in FA after the season.
I have no idea what is going on and I wish a they would fill us in a little bit on this.
