In life and death situations, you are a team. At least that's been my experience. One mistake and one of your teammates dies. I've never, ever, yelled at anyone in a situation like that. Afterwards, we could have some pretty heated exchanges, but I never did that in public. Be a man. Deal with it one-on-one in private. It doesn't make you a leader to berate a subordinate in public.
I don't believe it works in sports either. Like I said, if that were true we'd see Urlacher all over Cutler when he becomes "Bad Jay"......what good does that do? Does that make Urlacher a better leader? I don't think so. Motivate. Encourage. But don't be denigrating your own men in public.
