Jeffery exits game with hand injury

    By Jeff Dickerson | ESPNChicago.com

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Chicago Bears rookie wide receiver Alshon Jeffery sat out the bulk of the fourth quarter of the team's 41-3 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday after he injured his right hand.

Jeffery had his right hand heavily bandaged by the team's training staff but he did remain on the Bears' sideline until the conclusion of the game.

The rookie second-round draft choice caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Bears quarterback Jay Cutler at the start of the fourth quarter and finished the game with two receptions for 20 yards.

The good news for Jeffery is that he gets to rest his injured hand during the bye week and could return in time to face the Detroit Lions on Oct. 22. But in the event Jeffery is forced to miss any games, wide receiver Brandon Marshall thinks the club has enough depth to overcome the potential loss.

"He really is a big part of our offense," Marshall said of Jeffery. "We tried to get him going a little bit this week. He had a big score for us and had us going in the second half but we're so deep in the wide receiver room; it doesn't matter if it's Alshon or me or Devin (Hester), we got a guy who can step up and play. We'll get Earl (Bennett) back after this bye. Dane (Sanzenbacher) with the things he can do in the slot and Eric Weems, we haven't used him yet so he's still parked in the garage. We have a special group of guys."

Bennett was inactive in Week 5 for the second straight game due to the left-hand injury he sustained in practice prior to the Bears’ game against Green Bay on Sept. 13. The hope is for Bennett to be active when the Bears host Detroit on “Monday Night Football.”

Much like Bush in for Forte, we'll be okay, but we won't be the same. Alshon is just in a different class then Bennett(who's closest to him) or any of the others.

    2 things I'm glad for:

    1. The Bye.
    2. The Depth.

Wait. Did I just say 'the depth?'

    3. Phil Emery.

BDM, last few weeks, he's made big boy wr plays. I'm comfortable w/the team targetting him 3-4 times a game.

When you have a guy getting injuried it's always nice with a bye week right after.
I think that perhaps there should be two bye weeks in the NFL.
It would give teams some more breath, and everybody hates to lose a game due to injuries so it might reduce the amount of injuries. After all there is so much focus on it. kick off etc etc
It would also give an extra week with NFL so that would mean that they could sell more adds.

Could be nice if it's possibly.

Yep isn't it amazing how in just one offseason some of our biggest weaknesses have now turned into strengths. Buffalo spent all that $$$ on MWill and so far it's done them no good at all. In fact the Buffalo fans are upset with the guy because he hasn't done much for them. None of those guys they signed or drafted for their DLine have.

Emery went out and spent his money upgrading across the board with some special attention given to the spots where we needed it most and all of a sudden we've got depth at every spot.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

It almost looked like he cut the top of his hand on the defenders face mask, judging by the bandage and in the replay his hand drug across his mask

Either way he was joking with Marshall on the sidelines in the closing minutes so I'm not worried it effect him

I STILL can't believe yesterday's catch. I can't get the training camp image out of my mind in Cutler's first year where he overthrew Hester a touch, just to get a feel for how he would respond, and Hester watched the ball sail over his head. To this day that is my opinion of Hester as a WR, if it hits him in the hands he'll make the effort, otherwise, no. add that to his complaining about not getting the ball. But that catch yesterday changed my mind. He went after that ball. Just laid himself out like superman and hauled it in, getting a facefull of dirt when his mask dragged along the ground. The cliche is "he never batted an eye", but he did, while catching the ball basically one-handed. Call me impressed.

Now if only JC could have hit him in stride, that was a TD.

Getting back to Jeffrey, this kid keeps impressing me. Isn't he leading all rookies now? Hopefully the injury isn't bad and he can come back next game. I heard he's getting x-rayed today. When do we hear the news, Wednesday?
