Also, the greater concern here is that the offense cant seem to score without the defense showing them how first. We are going to come accross an opponent that can score on our defense at some point, then what do we do? Certainly cant rely on O to get the job done.

Bottom line is that with the talent we have this year there are no excuses. I personally believe Martz would be having a field day with these guys.

Martz was a terrible OC after how many years? Tice has been doing this for 5 games and you want to compare them?

Tice seems to have the ability to adjust and to allow his QB to audible. The reality is that all the talent that you are talking about is in it's first year. Chill and give it a chance. Enjoy the wins.

We have a much better team this year than last year, but even if Martz still was our OC we wouldn't be anywhere we are now. Martz is just as bad as J.A, and they have something in common.. they should never have been in Chicago.

Tice over Mike Martz any day. In the matter of fact I rather have a goat as OC than Martz. http://afcastore.com/product-detail.cfm?isbn=0736001395 someone should give him that book.

    LOL Hilarious!

Seriously I never understood one draft move JA made past like 2003. I mean he was the worst. I hope he never gets involved with pro football again, unless he goes tot he packers.

Tice needs to read that book too, his strategy is to "just go beat 'em" and "man up" with the guy, "win the one on one battles."

Hey Tice, news flash, if it were that easy everyone would do it. This league is so tight that even against the worst guys you can't win all the 1v1 battles every sunday.

Its called strategy Tice, USE IT.

Well this is a new offense and getting some games under their belt gives them time to grow//the defensive line is creating trouble every game// maybe the expert fixation with the packers cowboys jets new england gives da bears a chance to get cranked up

That is an excellent point, but I think a lot of fans don't believe this is true. It also applies to offensive line players.

Even solid oline players are going to get beat on some plays. And they will give up some sacks and QB hits too.

Obviously a good player shouldn't get beat like our guys have been beat last year. Webb, in particular has been a bum, (and Carimi this past game). But I think we need a dose of reality. Some players do get better, but at that point, if a player has a game where he has a false start or gives up a sack, does that automatically mean he's still a bum? I think it's better to realize players are a work in progress, and they CAN evolve into better players, and yet still have an occasional bad 1-on-1 matchup. That's going to happen (shouldn't be every week though).

It's going to be interesting to see how fans react if Webb turns out to be a decent player. Or Rachal. I'm not talking about pro-bowl here, but just a decent, average, LT. I didn't believe Lance Louis would be anything special, but you know what, he's become a rock solid RG for us. There was a time that I wondered if he'd even stick on our roster. He just looked bad. I don't know what's going to happen to Rachal, but here's a guy who looked like a bum earlier in the season. But he's getting better every week.

    Go figure.

I'd say 2.1-1 is pretty impressive through 5 weeks.

Now, to comment on bullet 1.... Bears have put up some big points. I'd say that skews your data. You interpret it as the Bears facing poor opponents. I interpret it as the Bears outscoring and making their opponents look bad.

Bullet 2. Had the Bears lost all their games, those numbers would be 15 wins 8 losses. Wow, those are some pretty darn good teams we beat.

Bullet 3. Last year means jack. Look at the Peckers. Look at the Vikings.

So to answer the original question, hell no! I ain't worried!

Secondly we didn't lose. The W-L is what it is.

Trying to get off this Martz/Tice distraction. Stay on subject people! haha

Shark correctly points out that your data on point differential and win loss is indeed skewed by the Bears own scoring and records. In fact, you pointed out that the opponents scored 112 points less than their opponents, but the Bears scored 78 more than their opponents (including us scoring 13 less than the Packers). Yes, I realize this isn't a direct correlation, but 3 of our 4 scores count, by anyone's standards, as blowouts. We are skewing the scoring data. And further, the win loss records you posted included losses to us - now he showed a 5 game swing had that not been the case, and it should have been a 4 game swing (we only won 4), but the point is valid, without us winning, they wouldn't have had the losses.

There really is no point in arguing this, you think strength of schedule is a valid measure of the Bears capacity to win, and I don't think strength of schedule matters one iota to any team in any year (this isnt college, we don't control who we play and when). Apparently we are unable to sway each others thoughts. Good enough. We've both made lucid arguments and valid points worthy of discussion. The best we can hope for is to earn the other's respect.

JABF, thanks for your contribution to the discussion here. I don't believe anything you said should get you mauled (at least not by any sane person).

Our offensive line is not that bad. I played RG in college (crappy D3 school of course) and I know a thing or two about offensive lines.

First, Garza is solid and he should be because Center is the easiest position to play on the line and he is now the vet. here. Although I still think of him as a rook, shows you how time flies right?

Louis has had a solid year thus far. This is the position he should have been playing all along.

Carimi is a moron but hes a good RT, I say hes a moron because I truly believe him to be a person of low intelligence (in general). Just listen to him speak and you'll see what I mean. Forget Jacksonville, Bears fans are hyper-sensitive about the OL now that we have had some problems. Carimi is fine.

Rachal has been okay at LG, he at least has shown he wants to play and be a starter. I think hes doing just fine and will continue to play fine as long as tice doesn't ask him to pull too much or get down field to block the second level. I think Rachal is kinda slow even for a lineman so getting down field and pulling are not good things for him to be doing, Louis is much better suited for those type of plays.

J Webb sucks, he looks and is terrible out there. I honestly think that if I were 100 pounds heavier I could do just as well. Granted LT is far-and-away the most difficult position to play on the line. He is gone next year I hope. If they don't make moves at LT next year I'd be very surprised.

I think Tice fell in love with Webbs size and athleticism. Let me tell you something, I played with guys that looked like freaks of nature. I mean big, strong, long, and fast. But when you throw them on the line its like they are on roller-skates, almost embarrassing to watch. That is what I see when I see Webb.

I dont appreciate every Tom dick and harry chiming in on how bad our OL is because its really not that bad anymore. I think lots of sports fans just have a heard mentality and they hear an announcer say something or an analyst says something and next thing you know everyone is railing on some poor bastard. This is what has happened with the OL in my opinion.

Understandable to be optimistically cautious based what we've seen so far from Da Bears. With the first quarter +1 done this year we are averaging 346 yds/gm vs 314 yds/gm in 2011. Tice isn't blowing the doors off by any means, even though he tried in GB, and the game plan was horrible. Martz seemed incapable of dialing it back, and it took 4-6 games in, a couple of trainwrecks, and Lovie not inviting him over for dinner to get him to adjust.
