(WSCR) Sources tell 670 The Score’s Terry Boers that the Bears and head coach Lovie Smith are in preliminary discussions on a two-year contract extension for the head coach.
Smith is currently under contract through the 2013 season.
Heading into their bye week, the Bears are 4-1 under Smith this season.
Through 133 games, Smith has coached the Bears to a 75-58 record, including a Super Bowl appearance following the 2006 season.
Smith is in his ninth season with the Bears.

Good. I just hope the O comes together so we can have 3-4 years of continuity for the O.

The Bears are just 4-1 and they're already talking about an extension. It's way too soon, win a Super Bowl first. Then we can talk.

I agree with 4th, I think the extension should wait until the end of the year. If the Chicago Bears do not make the playoffs, Smith and all of his coaches outside of Toub, should be fired!

That being said, I hope he is kept as there are no good coaches available. He is the best guy availae and he is already here.

This is way too early for an extension lets at least see how the team does against legit competition

I've been online reading posts most days but just haven't had the time to do much posting. THings have been crazy. The Bears are doing great, and I think Emery has been vindicated by going DE with his first choice. In fact the D has been stifling (much more than I thought it would be). I'm not sure Shea has played as big a part in it as I would like as of yet, but the QB pressure has allowed us to not only keep the other teams from scoring, but has taken some pressure off of the O.
Our Ol is really the only big weakness we have. it has been fun watching again.
As far as Lovie - I am not a big fan, but he is better than most. What I don't like about them negotiating now is two things:
1) I think we should see how the season unfolds - you know see how the team plays against playoff caliber teams - the ones that actually matter. We won't know this til later.
2) They are creating a double standard. The line has always been that the contracts are done in the off-season. The season is for football. Well, apparently that is true for the players but not the coaches. I think a bad message is being sent. They can extend him if they want, but do it after the season. Plus it actually gives them time to see if it's a good decision.
First thing from Emery I have seen that I don't agree with. The timing is not right.

So Shea hasn't been a big part of the pressure(which is accurate when you look at his stats) the OL is still a big issue but he's been vindicated by going DE?
I agree I'm not a big fan of Lovie's, but we could do a lot worse then him. I don't see anyone(albeit I don't follow college that closely) in the pro's that I would take overhim that the Bears could get that is better then him. It's a good choice.
A team double standard!?!?!?! Say it ain't so.
