Can always bid for them later, and after a few years to see how it pans out. Lovie had a bad first year, but the next two were really good. Harb ( SF ) has just one year, and doing great so far, but I'd like to see 3, 4 years for a track record. Staff has to play into a HC's record too.
The passion of a few, to rule the many, that's Washington D.C.. Where else was that said before, about whom?

Harbaugh in SF first year took a bust of a qb and made him into a potential franchise qb(not elite mind you) and this year it's looking even more the case. That's a hell of a thing. Imagine if Lovie could have done that for Rex.

Whow, whow, whow!!!
We are only 5 games into this season and as one of the posters above mentioned in his own thread "we haven't beaten anyone yet". Should I remind everyone that we have made the playoffs exactly once in 5 seasons, we don't yet know how this season will finish, and we want to extend him with a year still remaining on his current contract? No, no way, not yet. Lets let this season play out and see what happens. Why don't we just extend Urlacher for another two or thee years for 7 or 8 mil guaranteed?
I think we wait.

Yes, but if you can't tell from that post, strength of schedule doesn't matter apparently.
People are too dense to differentiate quality wins from garbage wins. So in the end when we are 10-6 or so and all anyone takes into account is the wins and losses, lovie will be a lot more expensive than he is now. Sign him now I say.

He is a lame duck HC if you ask me, we win games to save his ass at times yet dump his cast off coaches he hires. He has yet to have an assistant coach leave this team and become a HC somewhere else. Rivera doesn't count since he went to the chargers and worked there for a while before he became a HC. His challenges have been better but he bring jack shit assistant coaches to this team and dumps them when the bears suck. Ron Turner sucked for years yet we kept this guy around way too long. Martz was around way to long and that Babich patch guy should have been dumped when the bears defense took a shit a few years ago. We also lacks the ability to make adustments when our team is getting killed. He leaves a struggling franchise qb in games way too long when they have a 0.0 chance on coming back to win games. See Grossman, Orton, Cutler for an example of leaving a guy in way too long. I think we need a change for HC if we don't go deep in the playoffs this year. Most important we lost to the packers in the playoffs at home. Big no no in my book. Other than that he is ok.
I forgot one more thing, lets not forget all of the former garbage rams players he brought to chicago.

He has been saddled w/a bad GM though, but how much of what the GM did was at the behest of the HC? I'll look at guys I would rather have over him:
Belecheat
Coughlin
Tomlin
McCarthy
Peyton
Both Harbaughs
None of which are on the way out
Here is the list I think Lovie is just above or right with
Ried
Mike Smith
Shannahan
Fox
Norv Turner
None of them I would want over Lovie.
I wouldn't mind seeing the Chin when it comes to retiree's, but that's about it.
I agree with your groupings but like I said, in reality we can't get any of those guys. The guys you group lovie with we may be able to get but why make a lateral move? Doesn't make sense.
Edit: tom "foot in the grave" caughlin is the worst coach ever. Stacked team every year and manages to f it up most of the time. Terrible

yep no obvious upgrades unless theres some gem in the college ranks...and that's a huge gamble most the time.
Might not like him, but guy has 2 sb rings w/the Giants and only missed 3 playoffs since 2004 w/a .578 win percentage while in NY since 2004. He might suck, but he's got a better record then Lovie. And remember until Eli won his 1st sb he was considered a bust, and the fans wanted him replaced until he won that 2nd sb last year. So it's not like he's had a ton of recognized talent at the time. And lets not foget he's beaten the unbeatable Belichek and Brady 2x's in SB's. He's doing something right.
Lovie's missed the playoffs 5 times in that same time, only been to the SB once and he lost that in an embarassing fasion, he's only been to the NFCN 2's, and only won that 1x. He might not have had the stability of the NYG's when it came to producing talent; which is why I'm all for cutting him slack and resigning him, but I also cannot put him above a guy that has 2 sb championships and a much better playoff performance.

Emery might not want Lovie, and what GM is going to want to come in and be force fed an HC? But he did, and a new HC will bring another new OC, with another system for Cutler and the O to learn, and that's just not how to win championships. I believe Lovie gets extended before anyone else, including Cutler.

NO to Lovie
I do see a possible scenario playing out though ,.. if the Bears were to go bust this season ,... MAYBE Shanahan ,as Snyder has proven he can be impatient with his coaches in the past ..... If the Bears start to falter this season and bomb out on the playoffs and the Skins do not improve and miss the playoffs as well There is a scenario that could happen
IMHO The Bears would be fools if they sign Lovie to an extension prematurely
Personally no matter where this team ends up this season I want his azz gone
ANYTHING short of the Lombardi IMO is failure ....
AND NO to keeping him for the DC coach
I’ll take ROD over Lovie any day
