See I just cant understand how you say no to Lovie.

Since he came here the Bears have generated more takeaways than any other team in pro football. So it can at least be said that Lovie has upheld the strong defensive tradition we have here in Chicago. That is if you consider takeaways the most important defensive stat, which you do if you aren't stupid. (Its not points allowed, your not giving up points if your getting takeaways, period)

This is also evident in the fact that we only field half a team most years. Think about it, bunch of no name scrubs on offense since hes been here. How can you make the playoffs every year without an offense? I wont brutalize you by listing our quarterbacks since he's been here, we all know its bad. And I don't want to hear anything about Grossman, we all knew he was bad and so did Lovie. Lovie doesn't make personnel decisions by himself. If he did he would be HC/GM, but hes not is he? his title is just HC, isn't it? What was he supposed to do with Grossman? He was stuck with him, should he have railed on him? Thrown him under the buss with the media? Huh, what should he have done? He made the best of it.

*Absolutely not his fault we didn't make the playoffs. Injuries and offensive players shitting the bed against the Raiders, Chiefs, and Broncos kept us out. Don't agree? Well you're in the minority because everyone at Halas hall does and so does Phil Emery or else he never would have come here.

So you basically want to fire a guy because he had a 3 year stretch of not making the playoffs. We never won less than 7 games so its not like we were that bad. I just don't understand it.

His first year, we did go 4-12, but he had an amazing turnaround. Honestly, I think it's premature to re-sign him this early, but I do think with MOST coaches, like QBs, it takes a while to get the hang of things. Belichick sucked in Cleveland, Coughlin had some bad years in JAX, Cowher missed the playoffs 1/3 of his career. Sometimes it just takes the right situation, and it's starting to look like this coaching staff can work in better cohesion than any previous one under his tenure. Whatever's happening is good, but it's worth the gamble of overpaying him if we make a good run in the playoffs this year...

I agree with this. And I also agree with the previous post by Midway Monster that by signing him now, it may make economic sense for the Bears.

We've suffered through the years as Lovie has learned how to be a good HC. Slowly he has evolved into a good coach for Chicago. Why on earth would we get rid of him now? I could see letting Lovie go, a few years ago, but now - after the blood, sweat & tears of watching helplessly as he learned to be a decent HC - we have a seasoned guy who can keep a strong team going in Chicago. Now that we have a nice match in Emery - a guy who will help feed Lovie the talent he needs to be a consistent winner, moving forward, let's ride this bubble until it bursts. Now we can reap the benefits of having stuck by Lovie.

It's going to be nice to have some continuity.

It looks like the Bears have this defense fine-tuned to the point it's always going to be one of the better ones in the NFL. With Toub we will always have one of the best special teams units in the NFL. Emery has stocked the offense with top talent now, and will continue to build it stronger (oline). I think Tice will be a solid OC, getting better moving forward.

With all of this in place, Lovie will be the guy to bring our 2nd Lombardi Trophy to Chicago, and he'll keep the team as one of the better ones in the NFL most years.

It would be a shame to blow it all up, now that we've finally got everything in place to win consistently.

p.s. If we did let Lovie go, he'd be hired in a heartbeat by another city and he would build a winner there, leveraging what he's learned here in Chicago. There'd be no learning curve there. We suffered through that in Chicago, and now another franchise would reap the benefits. I tell you guys, the Lovie-Emery match is one made in heaven. Lotta winning will be the result.

I guess having a title speaks for itself, but I have seen Sugar Tits McCarthy play the part of the buffoon plenty of times. I think it's much more the talent on that team than his expert coaching.

I LIKE how those who pad & pamper Lovie's nuts leave things out ....

The biggest thing to hurt our team is having a good D. When for years we had a GM and HC who were totally into the Defensive side of the ball and for the most part ignored the Offense your not going to win the big one. Now we have a GM that seems very much interested in building a top Offense to go along with our Defense this pairing should bring us to the top of the NFL.

It seems to have become a force to be reckoned with once again, similar to the last time Lovie wasn’t calling the plays on D, when it was under Ron Rivera ... Were going into week 6 I’m sorry the O is not firing on all cylinders yet . You may think it is but it’s not ... This team has the jitters on O from time to time it needs to attended to or some of the closer games we have seen ... might not have the same outcome ...

With all of the years and experience Lovie has racked up by now as a head coach you would think Lovie and his hand picked experts on offense would get it done alot quicker. They haven’t done squat for the offensive side of the ball other than having the O be the practice dummies for his Cover Who defense

So as far Lovie getting an extension, it can wait.

Lovie is in the same category as Jeff Fisher. Fisher had the long-term support of Bud Adams, until the Vince Young fiasco, in spite of never winning the SB and only making it there once. Lovie and Fisher have also always been popular in the locker room as well. I lived in Nashville when the Oilers came to town, and even saw them play in Vandy. Fans loved the guy and after the SB he was still very popular, even though they lost.

Lovie is protected by the McCaskey's and he's here unless the wheels come off this year and we finish below 9-7. If we're 9-7 or 10-6, and miss the playoffs, I believe he's still coming back. Still believe he gets an extension, maybe 2 years, done quick.
