With the news of the Bears and Lovie Smith talking contract extension, some fans are in favor of the move while others are against it. So let me ask a question.... where do you rank Lovie Smith out of all the current HC, and guys who "might" consider coming out of retirement.

The SCORE just had HUB on, and asked this, his reply was 10th best. I'll ask is it too soon? Last time it cost the Bears more money cause he won, so is this cause of money? Emery must have signed off on this too, right? He is signed thru NEXT year, why now? why not wait till contract is up? The Bears MIGHT do better then Lovie, then again COULD do much worse too. One playoff in 5, or is it six years? Sure he has a winning record, but playoff WINS is what I measure a coach by.

Seriously though, Lovie Smith is a top 10 coach in the league. His weakness is offense. The defense has been the best in the NFL over his tenure. I don't think theres any question they need to extend his contract.
If he deserves to be fired then what do you have to do to keep your job? Thats the question we should be asking.

That's a poor excuse MidwayMonsters, He's the HC, the whole team is his thing, if he neglects one piece in favor of "his" piece then that is on him too. He has been saddled w/a bad GM though, but how much of what the GM did was at the behest of the HC? I'll look at guys I would rather have over him:

Tomlin
McCarthy
Peyton
Both Harbaughs
None of which are on the way out
Here is the list I think Lovie is just above or right with

Mike Smith

Fox
Norv Turner
None of them I would want over Lovie.
I wouldn't mind seeing the Chin when it comes to retiree's, but that's about it.

Benj I agree. So I think the best thing we can do is what we are doing. It's a damn shame we didn't go after one of the Harbaugh boys when we had a chance though b/c they are clearly better, we really missed on those guys.
