Brad Biggs @BradBiggs #Bears put TE Brody Eldridge thru tryout today. 5th rd pick of #Colts in '10, he was suspended for 1st 4 games of season for PED violation.
2010 NFL Draft Eldridge was considered the best blocking tight end in the draft and was thought of as a late-round pick. He was drafted by the
Indianapolis Colts in round 5 with the 162nd pick of the 2010 NFL Draft.
[5] He was the second tight end drafted from the
University of Oklahoma that year following
Jermaine Gresham in the first round.
[edit] Indianapolis Colts He agreed to a four-year, $1.95 million contract with the Colts.
[6]
Eldridge was waived by the Colts on May 17, 2012.
[edit] St. Louis Rams On May 18, 2012, Eldridge was claimed by the
St. Louis Rams. On July 2, 2012, it was reported that he would be suspended for the first four games of
2012 season due to violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances. He will be able to participate in all offseason and preseason practices and games, but can't be added to the active roster until after facing the
Seattle Seahawks on September 30.

Eldridge is an interesting prospect. He has the size of real TE (Rodriguez is not a TE). While I think the oline has not been too bad since the "incident" I still think the Bears could use all the oline help they can get.

I agree. Rodriguez at 6'2" and 230 pounds is more of a FB sized guy. I really don't understand how he fits our offense. The times I've watched him, he doesn't look very good at blocking. He DID look good as a receiver at training camp. I thought Tyler Clutts at 260 pounds (a good receiver, long snapper, and an outstanding blocker) made more sense for that roster spot.

Uugh w/Unga. I agree could have kept Clutts and Rodriguez could develop his blocking better
I vote for sticky on workouts
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.

I think ERod is more like 6' 1", 245 but I agree that he's more of a FB/Hback type than a true TE. I don't blame Lovie for keeping their 4th round pick but I do agree that he hasn't yet been used in a role that best suits him. His blocking is (so far) << Tyler Clutts as a stay-in-the-backfield type of player. I thought he would be used as a safety valve receiver primarily instead of as a blocker. Generally, I think the Bears made very good roster moves throughout since last spring with a few exceptions:
A) CWill was utterly mis-managed again. He was never a viable back-up or "push Webb" kind of option at OT. That was stupid and the subsequent acquisition of Scott proved it. He should have been allowed to compete at LG where he's best and either start or backup there. If Rachal continues to pan out and stays healthy then I guess it doesn't matter but he never should have been shoe-horned into the OT position where he's a stopgap option at best.
B) The second screwup was Tyler Clutts. No way he should have been let go. You mentioned why. He was a darned good backfield blocker, a so-so receiver, and valueable on STs and as a backup LS. Why he was discarded and KAdams kept instead baffles me (KA would have been a good PS option in case of injury with TC on the 53 man roster). The combo of Clutts lead blocking for Bush on short yardage/goaline situations would have been lethal and we did fail to convert a 3rd and 1 with Bush in the Dallas game. The guy we got in trade, McMannis, had some good ST reps early but then committed 2 big penalties in the Jax game. Not worth the trade-off at all IMHO.
C) As mentioned above, I don't get the way they have used ERod thus far (and I grant you it was only a few games so too soon to judge).
