I figure I'm just going to try to enjoy every day of this season.
Seasons like this one are very special.
I've been a fan for a bit over 50 years now. As I reflected on the 32 bad seasons (posted earlier in this thread), it was a "reality check" for me. I know others here sat through those same seasons. There were years where we had only had a few wins. One year we only won 1 game all year.
You didn't come to the games expecting to win. You KNEW we were going to lose. Seriously. You just came to watch a player or two who was solid. Maybe you watched Butkus lay the wood on somebody with a great hit. Or Sayers have some sweet runs. Stuff like that. At the end of the game, you accepted the loss. That was what the Bears did. It was normal. You just tried to think of that great hit Butkus had in the game. Or any "positive" play by a player you liked. But we were losers.
Game after game after game after game. Those were our seasons in those dark years.
For you younger Bears fans, can you imagine sitting through 32 bad years of crap play? Some Seasons where we were the laughingstock of the NFL.
Reflecting on all this reminded me to not get caught up in the minutiae of stuff that really doesn't matter very much. I'm not going to stress over whether or not Martz was a good or bad OC. I'm not going to lay awake at night worrying if Carimi is going to get better (he will). I'm through hating on Webb (he's looking pretty decent now).
I'm just going to enjoy the year. No arguing here over small stuff that doesn't mean squat. No hand wringing over stupid stuff.
We are #1 in the NFC-N.
We're already 5-1.
This defense is #1 in the NFL in scoring points allowed (LINK).
Our offense is #8 in the NFL in points scored per game (LINK). And I don't care how they're figuring this (defense scoring included or not). We're #8 in the NFL. That's all I care about.
We are pretty darned healthy overall too.
Life is good!

Only been following them for a few season but 32 years... that's harsh. Thank god we have been medicore the last few years now it's time to step up and be a top team.
I do however know how it is to support at team that keeps losing.. That's my local hockey club.

I'm excited Z because I truly believe we have the GM, coaches and players now, to make some serious Super Bowl runs. This team can not only get us to the Super Bowl - but win it.

I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Dude I never noticed before because he his head is shaved but Urlacher is bald (not just from shaving!). Dude has a hasselback-like hairline.
Superbowl or Bust!

You know what's scarier than that, Midway? He even looks like a fumanchu-less version of Trent Dildo! lol

What a game today, and another reason to enjoy this season....
Today, against the Titans and in their home, the Bears became the first team in NFL history with a touchdown pass, touchdown run, pick six and a blocked kick for a score in the same quarter.
(We should keep this thread going with the Bears accomplishments this year.)

I absolutely love watching Peanut punch that ball out of the hands of players. I got a kick out of watching Urlacher run the pick six back. He looks like he's lost a lot of speed (took him forever to run that puppy back for the score) but it sure was fun watching him. He looked like he was having a ton of fun out there today. Both my kids were home from college today and we watched the game. I told my daughter to enjoy watching Brian this year. He's not going to be around forever. I can't imagine how sad it will be to see him retire someday.
But today he was a stud

I think there are a lot of bears fans out there that will never stop complaining, myself included. For me personally, the 90's really did me in as a fan, they were a long brutal haul with no hope in sight. There was no direction in the franchise, we took pounding after pounding from rivals, it was down-right dispicible. The 2000's were not much better. Point I'm trying to make is that I've been doing nothing but complaining for the past 20 years (give or take a few good ones in there). I feel it's gotten to the point that I don't know how to enjoy my team anymore sometimes. So to make up for it I'm starting a list of everything I love about the bears or enjoyed watching or just anything positive associated with the franchise over the last 20 years.
I'm going to keep updating it throughout the season and I'd appreciate it if you all added your thoughts to the list as well, everyone feel free to participate:
1. The heritage, tradition, and history of the franchise.
2. Watching Brian urlacher chug down the field for a pick six courtesy Matt Hasselback.
3. Denny Green's freak out: "THEY ARE WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE!!! If you want to crown 'em then f---ing crown 'em!!" Instant classic.
4. Cutler's moxy.
5. Making Mathew Stafford taste the turf at soldier field.
6. I love the fact that our fans are traveling so well in 2012.
7. I think the nick name "train-Rex" (grossman) was/is hilarious.
8. In 2005 the bears defense beat Joey Harrington so bad they made him cry on the field, he limped off and Kitna had to finish the game.
9. Devin Hester ran one back in the Super Bowl in 2006 when everyone was saying he was a fluke.
10. Mike brown and all the good years he gave us.
11. Charles Tillman being a ball hawk, never seen anything like him.
It's late on the east coast, I'll think of more tomorrow while I'm at work (lol).

I really feel the same way Midway. After the win, I had to catch myself. My initial reaction was to think of what didn't work, and what needs to improve, and "oh, no the oline" etc. etc etc.
Then I stopped. I thought of this thread. I though that I must be nuts if I can't enjoy a HUGE Bears win like this, for even 10 minutes, before worrying again.
This is a "Bears fan thing" I think. We've had so many disappointments over the years, that it's not easy for us to simply relax and enjoy a season. Maybe it's even a Chicago sports thing too. I'm a Cubs fan too (don't laugh) and it's been heartbreaking. Like the Bartman fan interference play. Stuff just comes out of nowhere to hit you as a fan.
I'm going to try and do better this season. To simply enjoy it. I probably need a support group for this season
EDIT:
Hah! It just occurred to me that YOU guys are my support group. You guys are just as crazy as I am about the Bears.
