It wasn't intended as an insult jackie. Just a joking around.
I'm probably far more of a walking, talking commercial for psych meds than most which is why I joke about it. Better living through chemistry.

OK, fair enough, lets talk about this idea.
jackiejokemanBTW ... We always think of TE's as BLOCKERS and WR"S.
But should now the equation be added as FB/RB ?
The WALTER PAYTON scatback RB is a good thing to have ...
but it wouldnt hurt to have a BIG straight north-south bull nose rusher,
that doubles (triples) as a BLOCKER and WR.
Thats alotta THREAT out of one body ...
IF ... you can find that kind of player.
BLOCK ... CATCH THE BALL ... RUN THE BALL ?
What if you put four of them on the field at the same time?
That used to be Fortes job.
Now times that by four.
Guys like Eldridge and/or Clutts, or Spaeth, or Adams or most anyone else like that aren't often used as ball carriers. I'm not saying you
couldn't use them that way but for the most part they
aren't used that way.
That deal with Hernandez was a pretty big exception to the rule. Belechick does some off the wall things sometimes in order to win games and you just had to know the opponent hadn't game planned for that one right? And it worked but I don't see him repeating it just because it worked once.
Even with their size and power guys like Eldridge or Clutts really aren't adept RBs because they've never been trained to be one. It takes more than just being a 260lb sledgehammer to run through a wall of defensive lineman who outweigh you by 50-100lbs and are just as big, strong, tough and mean as you are.
This is not a 235lb Bronko Nagurski goring 1930s Dlines that averaged less per man than he weighed for three yards and a cloud of dust football anymore. It isn't even Wm. Perry at 315lbs blasting a 225lb LB on his keester for a score. They can stop guys like Clutts and Eldridge and they will stop them as often as not because they aren't very nifty runners. If there's a hole they may power through it but if that's the case so can a 220lb back. If there's no hole both will get stuffed.
Besides why use a TE/FB to carry the ball when you already have a 6'1" 245lb power back like Bush who is an experienced ball carrier and can adjust on the fly. I'd say there's more power and running force behind a shorter more compact guy that size than a guy who is 4" taller and goes 265lbs. If a 6'5" guy can't compact himself into a tight ball, if he's too upright, he won't get penetration and he won't gain the necessary yardage. It's really a whole lot easier for 330lb NTs to stop a guy like that than you think it is.
I like the idea of using them in the backfield as blockers both on run and pass plays because they have the athleticism to block on the move and pick up blitzes or chip block with the OTs. On certain occasions you can throw to them as a check down receiver or on a quick toss out of the backfield but as ball carrier, no, I don't see the need when you have a Matt Forte or a Michael Bush to do that and do it better.
How's that for FOOTBALL TALK?
