4Da, I think this might be the year for Hester to prove he can be a decent WR; if so they'll keep him around. If not you might see the team try and trade him.

I look at it this way.... Which one would hurt the team less if they were traded to another team.

For me that is Bennett, not only the cap hit but I agree with others on here that he could be replaced much easier.

When Hester was given that contract 3 years ago, he was viewed by the Bears as being our #1 WR. We had DA, Bennett, Rashied Davis & Knox as our WR's at that time. He's not even close to being a #1 WR in the NFL and never will be. Also, Hester turns 30 next month.

I don't see how the Bears could possibly give him that $10.25 million dollar bonus ($12.8 million dollar cap hit) in 2013. I'd love to see Hester retire a Bear, but not if he kills our cap. He is definitely overpaid.

Yes! I knew someone would come to that conclusion eventually! Not surprised it was JABF. $12.8 million is OUTRAGEOUS to pay a guy like Hester. I don't care what they actually have to pay him. His cap hit is too high. They wont trade him either, no one would go anywhere near that stinker of a contract unless we sold the farm in draft picks. Basically we are screwed.

$12.8 million cap hit for a 500 to 700 yard guy whos going to score way less than 10 touchdowns this season?!?!?! Nonsense.

I say give him the opportunity to show he can cut the mustard at those numbers and a t that level this year. If he can't, cutting him is probably our only option. A move that would be very unpopular.

12.8 million VS 3 Million? for my money Hester is much more replaceable.

And all else being equal, there are not a lot of Bennetts out there floating around either. I don't know where yall are getting that idea.

P.S. I laugh every time I see people call Hester a "developmental" guy. He's 30 years old fellas, "developmental" flew the coop about 4 years ago.

There is always the chance that they restructure/extend his contract also, which is what I would look at.

xx, he's been playing wr for 3 years in the nfl, he really didn't play it in college. That's why he's developmental still. WR is one of the hardest positions to learn, your top WR drafts tend to take 2-3 years to fully pick it up. Hester played, mostly DB/ST's in college, w/some WR thrown in. It is not his natural position.

You're now seeing the dividens this year; his routes are crisper, and he's making DB's miss w/his moves.

I would expect the Bears and Devin to restructure. He played hardball with his contract 3 years ago because, frankly, he could (no harm in that, gotta look out for #1, right?)... since he was the only WR this team had that was even a mild threat on the field. With the kickoff spot moved forward... kick return specialists took a huge hit... so consider that.

He's not going to be able to go anywhere and be a #1 or even a #2. So what is the point in leaving Chicago if he can stay? And this offense is really coming into its own... would you want to walk away from this? haha

Hell no I wouldn't, but some would. Just look at Kahlil Bell.

Why would he restructure? Bears cut him if he doesn't, some team will sign him for a returner.
