There's going to be "disruption" over the next few years no matter what. Urlacher, Peppers, Izzy (and maybe Briggs and Tillman too a little later) are going to need replacement/succession. Turnover is a fact of life and its how well or poorly it is managed that counts.

Yep. And what matters is in the matter in how it's addressed. I'm sure Emery is planning on transition when some of the players retire. What I am saying is I don't believe it's beneficial to rob from Peter to pay for Paul esp. when Paul (in this case the D-line) is doing quite well.

We have some young upcoming players whom the Bears are starting to rotate in and they are doing a good job as well. Developing them for the future means that the loss of Shea to the LB corps won't mean disruption to the "D" line at all. Right now he's a situational player and doesn't play the majority of snaps anyway. I just get the feeling that he's being groomed for something more that that "Situational Player". He's too good to be part time but by the time Brian hangs up his cleats Shea will have enough experience under his belt to step up. And ......... YES it's just a hunch but it's mine and I'm sticking with it !

Yes we have some very nice players to rotate in and platoon. And how many years has it took to get to this point? Long enough I would say. I don't know how long Rod and co. are going to be here but I want to see this group play a few seasons before it gets tinkered with.

The phrase "it all starts up front" is paramount for this type of D. It augments everything. Sometimes a "situational player" is just as important as a full timer esp. if they are maximizing an area of emphasis and strength.

Isn't it sweet to be able to talk about depth for a change after all the years of having a "Empty Shelf" regarding players to rotate in on BOTH sides of the ball. Emery has done a good job so far and I hope we can expect more of the same for many years to come. Continuity will be a key as it should be.
