The Super Bowl Half-Time Show

Not trying to be a dick and point out the obvious but Beyonce has a gigantic and more diverse fanbase. The Superbowl is watched by much more than hardcore football fans like ourselves. For a lot of people that's the only NFL game they watch each year.

I too like almost all kinds of music but I have been rather out of touch up here in the "Northwoods". You know when you're getting old when Uriah Heep is playing in a local lounge (holds about 200) next month. Last time I saw them was at the old Auditorium Theatre !

Bears in Super Bowl with Metallica doing the half-time show. I would sell every possession I own and start over to get tickets to that. Nice dream- don't ruin it for me.

NFL realizes that real football fans will watch the game, no matter what, or who they have performing at the half. They are trying to reach out to all the pop culture hipsters and misc. douchebags around the world who tune in only for commercials and the half time show. There is no way on God's green earth that the NFL fan community would rather see Madonna or Beyonce than Van Halen, or any real rock. ( I refuse to believe any evidence that may support the shattering of my thesis, made up in this very minute with no study done or any other evidence to support it besides my own very biased opinion)

I think your thesis is incorrect, in that the NFL is reaching to the vanilla, rather than the hipsters...If they wanted to reach for hipsters, get Jeff Mangum, Karen O or the Flaming Lips. Hell, I think Jack White crossed the "barrier" long ago into the banal; that would be more than sufficient here, but even if you got something less-than-Zeppelin, you're gonna have that combined with horrible other stuff. Didn't Aerosmith sing with Britney Spears years ago?
