The Trib Guys Like the Bears This Week..............

Tribune picks: Bears vs. Lions on MNF

    4:18 p.m. CDT, October 21, 2012

    Brad Biggs 5-0

Bears 34, Lions 17: Detroit has one explosive player on offense in Calvin Johnson and that isn't enough against the Bears defense that should get a boost with a big ground effort.

    Matt Bowen 5-0

Bears 23, Lions 14: Play deep. That's the ticket versus Calvin Johnson. The Bears will lean on their Cover-2 defense, win the battle on special teams and move to 5-1.

    David Haugh 4-1

Bears 27, Lions 17: It's only a rivalry if Lions can back up their big talk. But consistently they can't, and a more complete Bears team will expose them on national TV as a dangerous but undisciplined bunch.

    Vaughn McClure 5-0

Bears 28, Lions 14: Something tells me the Lions' bark is a lot worse than its bite despite last week's victory over the Eagles. Devin Hester ought to be "ridiculous" against a ridiculously bad Lions coverage team. And Matt Forte always runs well versus this NFC North foe, so feed him.

    Dan McNeil 4-1

Bears 30, Lions 20: If the Bears protect reasonably well vs. Detroit's aggressive front seven, they should win. History says Lovie Smith is money after a bye.

    Fred Mitchell 4-1

Bears 26, Lions 13: Red-zone efficiency will be key, and the Bears figure to make the most of their opportunities. Ball security is of utmost concern for both teams. Matt Forte should have the ball in his hands a lot as receiver and runner.

    Mike Mulligan 4-1

Bears 23, Lions 21: Do you prefer your NFL coach emotionally unavailable or emotionally deranged? The Bears boast the better defense, running game, special teams and head coach. It shouldn't be this close.

    Dan Pompei 4-1

Bears 27, Lions 23: Expect another bare knuckle fight between these bitter rivals, with the Bears landing more blows because of their defensive superiority. The takeaway trend should serve the home team well in this game.

    Steve Rosenbloom 4-1

Bears 54, Lions 6: There are always questions with the Lions. Will Matthew Stafford play badly or get injured? Can the Lions defense make bail? If the Lions win the toss, will Jim Schwartz choose aiding or abetting? Will Ndamukong Suh bite?

The Pack and the Vikes both won today so this becomes a big game as far as staying ahead of the pack in the NFCN. A loss by Detroit virtually removes them from any contention in the division.
