It was not dirty. That's just football.
It's amazing how "sensitive" we've become to rough plays now. When I watch games from the past (especially that 1985 Bears season), it is stunning to see what used to be allowed against QB's back then, as compared to today's watered down game.
I'm not against the newer rules protecting players. But at some point I think we have to understand that this is football - a rough sport.

Yeah, I agree, but I don't recall anyone on the '85 team trying to rip somebody's head off. They hit people so hard it knocked them into next Sunday.

[QUOTE=Shark86x;911883]My only problem with it is why does he always go to the head and try to rip it off? Tackling somebody around the neck is dirty, and has only one purpose - injury. So it was a clean hit, but also dirty.
I agree that although maybe being a "clean hit" the fact he goes for the neck and then plants his forearm into Cutler's helmet is in my opinion dirty.

It was a textbook Judo throw. The rough part was following him to the ground, which is legal. Nothing more or less.

"If you're not a liberal at twenty you have no heart, if you're not a conservative at forty you have no brain."

Lovie Smith, Jay Cutler and Dan Hampton all agree with Julius Peppers. They see nothing wrong with the hit

They knocked out 11 starting QB's in 16 games:
Joe Theisman & Danny White:
Their intention was to take us out. If you had that kind of physical talent and a scheme that allowed you to take shots at the quarterback, if you didn't take us out legally, you'd be crazy. It seemed like the sole purpose of that defense was to make the quarterback's life as miserable as possible."
White laughed at the idea of a humane Bears' defender, too.
"I can tell you that if a defensive lineman tells you he didn't mean to hurt the quarterback, you'd have to define hurt," White said with a pained chuckle. "Maybe they didn't mean to permanently disable you, but knock you out of a game, absolutely. That's their job, to get the backup to come in and create as much chaos for the offense as they could."
I was with Joe Theismann one night about 10 years ago, and we started talking about defense. That always becomes a delicate topic when you're talking with Theismann because his leg was famously cracked and his career ended by Lawrence Taylor on a Monday night for the nation to see.
So it surprised me when Theismann said what he still dreamed of, what literally caused him nightmares years after he retired, was the Bears' "46" defense, which rumbled through his Redskins in the '84 playoffs and again in the '85 regular season.
"I can still see them now," Theismann said, and he began pointing at an imaginary 11 in front of him and reciting their names: "Richard Dent, Fridge, McMichael, Hampton ... Otis Wilson, Singletary, Wilber Marshall, Leslie Frazier, Gary Fencik, Dave Duerson, Mike Richardson."
It was like Theismann was seeing ghosts, and for a quarterback on the Bears' schedule in 1985 that's probably what they were.
Bears went to Dallas and trashed the division-winning Cowboys 44-0 in Texas Stadium. It has to be the most humiliating defeat in Cowboys history and in Tom Landry's storied tenure. They knocked both Danny White and Steve Pelluer out of the game, and there's this one image of Landry on the sideline trying to talk White into going back into the game.
The Cowboys were literally physically afraid to play the Bears that afternoon.

I do not think Suh was trying to hurt Cutler. As BG pointed out he would have nailed him on a following play where momentum was carrying him right into Cutler but he pulled up. He could have leveled Cutler there without a flag, but he didn't.
Also, watch some tape, they have been talking about how Suh actually went to Cutler to see if he was okay after the play and Cutler patted him in the stomach like he was Budda.
No player/coach thinks it was a dirty hit at all other than Marshall. Besides, if Cutler had not landed on the ball, his ribs would be fine and we would not even be talking about this hit.

That was a dirty takedown. Suh didnt just happen to reach across Cutlers head, then sweep Cutler, and then Drive his head into the ground.
Thats a Martial Arts Takedown. Its practiced in MMA, but its DIRTY in the NFL. I dont care if its "Legal" Its unnecessary and Dirty. I wouldnt be upset if retaliation came his way.

So you disagree with Peppers, Lovie, Hampton and the man who was tackled Cutler? They all say there was NOTHING wrong with the hit at all

I agree with Brandon Marshall. Thats a Dirty takedown. It wasnt a hit. If people start doing that crap to other QBs, it would be banned real fast.
