I think I just heard Deacon Jones laughing...

You kick him, you don’t stomp him.” Jones said he thinks Suh needs to be smart enough not to act out of anger and hurt his team. “I’m angry with him because he didn’t learn how to cover it up,” Jones said. “We spent more time practicing things like that. Knew when to do it. I’m not going to hurt my defensive unit, I’m not going to cost us 15 yards, but I am going to kick your ass.” Jones was a brutal pass rusher in his day, and he shudders at the modern rules that limit defensive players and doesn’t think he could survive under today’s rules. “I’d probably be arrested with this bunch of guys, they’re soft — give me a break: These guys are soft,” Jones said. “I hit the head. Look, Suh grabbed him by the neck, leg whipped him to trip him, brought him down and with his full weight on his forearm on Cutler's neck, landed on him, twisting Cutler's head under the pile of lard. That is intent to injure. This next question is all the reason you need to know that it was dirty... Why did he grab Cutler by the neck? He has to reach UP to do that. It is much easier, safer, and more effective to grab the QB around the chest and arms, preventing the ball being dumped off, and making a safer and more sure tackle.
Given Suh's history, this clearly was a dirty play. Unfortunately, it is also legal. The fact that Cutler got injured by landing on the ball has nothing to do with it. The more I watch this play, the more convinced I am it was dirty. I would like to change my vote from could go either way to dirty as hell.

I don't want to hear about old time players complaining about how sissified the new players are. These players are also less likely to commit suicide over their brain malfunctioning and have complete gaps in memory and thought processes.

I am sorry, I just can not call a LEGAL hit dirty. Especially if the league reviewed it and deemed it unworthy of a fine.
with the league being sued by all the old broken players for them not doing enough to protect the players, if they saw anything dirty about the play he would have been fined.
It was a legal hit.
It was a nasty hit, but a legal hit.
It was a hit the equivalent of a nasty car crash, but it was a legal hit.

Deacon Jones couldn't play in the league anymore because he isn't any good at playing good, clean, football. The league has evolved and the players continue to get bigger and faster at the same time. Safety should be important and eventually the league will find the sweet spot.

Not only that, but how much did the old timers weigh? How heavy were the guys they were hitting? How heavy are the players today? Today's 300+ pounders can do a lot more damage than those old 180-250 lb guys. Plus they're a lot faster today with all the full year training routines. That makes the momentum even more damaging.

The way I look at it, is that you can't compare the game, or the players, from different era's. I do respect the older players, as well as the new players. The NFL has never been a safe game. Plenty of injuries in all era's of the NFL.
These players today are definitely NOT whimps. They play the game under the current rules, and the new rules are good for the game.
That being said, I do cringe when I see the QB carnage from the era's where they allowed play that would get you ejected from a game today - and get a 4-figure fine from Goodell. Back then it wasn't even flagged. But, it doesn't make today's guys less tough. It's just a different era with different rules.

Um, like Jim Brown, Dick Butkus is one of those players that was big for his time, and could likely play in these times. 90% of players would be lucky to be 3rd stringers on today's teams. Same with Baseball, Babe Ruth is the most overrated player ever. 6'2 215, playing in a segregated league? Yeah, he'd be a minor league player today.
