A little story our colonel told us as part of a briefing. To start, he is a hardcore Bears/steelers fan, and been all over the country. He said his wife (or sister in law, forgot) was his high school teacher and asked him why he didn't put as much into his shoolwork as he was capable, and she asked him where he thought where he would be in 10 years. He said "playing football" and she thought he was being foolish. Our colonel joked "well, we see who had the last laugh".

After reading some of the previous articles and posts I thought I'd post this one. Trying to compare Peanut to other great CBs is like trying to compare Urlacher or Butkus. You really can't do it effectively using typical methods of analysis.
Just like Urlacher, Peanut plays the game differently than a guy like Deon Sanders or a Champ Bailey but is he any less effective playing in this defense than those guys were or are in theirs? Probably not although Peanut won't see that HOF like those two.
Just a different way of looking at it and appreciating him for the totally unique type of player he is.
Charles Tillman’s ability to create turnovers sets him apart

Getty ImagesThe way the Bears throttled the Titans made it easy to find superlatives, but one performance stood out among the rest.
Bears cornerback Charles Tillman forced four fumbles Sunday, giving him seven for the season, along with his two interceptions returned for touchdowns.
“I think we are all seeing history being made,” Bears linebacker Lance Briggs said, via Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times.
That’s partly because Tillman’s ability to create turnovers is nearly without precedent. Since 2003, he’s second in the NFL with 36 forced fumbles. Only Colts outside linebacker Robert Mathis has more, and Tillman’s the only player in the top eight who isn’t a pass-rusher.
Tillman passed Dwight Freeney and teammate Julius Peppers on that list Sunday, and Peppers said the way his teammate did it is the most spectacular.
“Most of mine come from the blind side of the quarterback,” Peppers said. “He does it while the guy is looking at him and trying to run him over. He does it in a different way so it makes it a little more impressive.”
Tillman’s generally overlooked in discussions of elite corners in the league, in part because he doesn’t have great speed. Part of it is pedigree as well, as he wasn’t a top-10 pick from a name school (a second-rounder from Louisiana-Lafayette), which causes players to play catch-up to the recognition they deserve. That partly explains the fact he’s been to one Pro Bowl.
“I’m confident in my technique, my team, my talent,” Tillman said. “I think when it’s all said and done, you can put my stats with other corners in the league, and I think it’ll hold true. “I can be in the same sentence.”
(If he keeps this up he'll be an entire paragraph complete with footnotes)
He’s actually in a sentence all his own, as he plays a more well-rounded game than many of the pure cover players, and he’s doing things no other defensive back is doing.

i'm posting this here, but it's the first highlight that really gives Peanut his credit
from a biggs tweet:
http://sulia.com/channel/chicago-bea...-e80511fe3bca/ Dan Pompei about 7 hours ago Little known fact: Bears are going to have an interesting decision to make in the offseason on Charles Tillman. Why?
Tillman has one year left on his contract after this season. He is scheduled to earn $8 million in 2013, which would make him the fourth highest-paid player on the team as of now.
When the Bears signed him to a six-year contract in 2007, they never intended to pay a 32-year-old cornerback in a zone scheme $8 million in the last year of his contract. The last season was added as an incentive either to restructure his deal or cut him. But now Tillman is playing like an $8 million corner. Whether or not he can continue to play like that next year is the question general manager Phil Emery will have to ask himself. Bear Essentials
I cannot imagine how this team could let Tillman go now, or ask him to take less. Going to be very interesting for Peanut this offseason.
That still doesn't make him anywhere near the highest paid CB in the NFL and there are a lot of ways to deal with this besides just paying him because he's earned it, LOL.
I think they'll guarantee some of all of it by way of an extension and cut his cap cost while at the same time give him some security with another two or three years added to his deal. JMHO

How many more years would he need to play like this to be HOF?

I'd say 2-3 but man, this year could be a rocket sled to HOF:
Defensive player of the week (multiple)
Defensive player of the month (multiple perhaps this month)
Pro-bowl (given I'd say)
All-pro (again given at this rate)
Most turnovers generated by a defensive back (within one of Dawkins in FF and has a shot for ints in 6 less years)
DPOY it's doable if he can beat Watt's stats (which makes the Texan game even more interesting)
Tack on a SB ring and MAYBE SB mvp (asking a lot I know). I think that formula equals HOF. After this season he's in the conversation and on the map as they say. That publicity alone should garner him more pro-bowls and more steam.
Is also within striking distance of most interceptions returned for TD's currently 7 (Rod Woodson 12).

Soul, I agree. I think he's got at least 3-4 more years left, even if it means guarding the #2 instead of the 1. Hell you look at some of those elite CB's and they have
200+ games, and Tillman is only at 145(at the end of the year). He's got a lot of time to destroy all the #s.
SFB, I think the main pieces there is the DPotY, a few more probowls/all D team, SB ring, and Most's TO's(int's and ff's combined).

HoF he needs about 50 FFs and 50 INT + a SB or 2 or 3

He has less than 4% body fat.
I guess it is so but hard to believe.
