I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Anyhoo, Rodriguez seems to be the type of guy Tice used in his offense with the Vikings, but I think he's still installing his offense at this point, and the little nuances that aren't first to mind aren't being used, yet. We've got the running and normal pass plays down, but rarely have we used motion or misdirection plays, and I think that's because Tice is just trying to set the table with the plays we're already calling.

That could be true. Yet, I think he would have had a lot of this figured out going into the midway point of the season. I think a lot of this tactical error was covered up by knowing we had two wide receivers who are 6'4" and 6'5" respectively, and the rest are around 6'0"-6'1". Now that we're down one of those twin towers for a few weeks (Alshon Jeffery), we had a hard time moving the football Monday night against the Lion. We ran the ball well, but what I'm mean was that Cutler didn't have his #2 receiver available to him. Of course, Cutler did get banged up by Ndamukong Suh in the second quarter, so he wasn't very effective the rest of the night. We have to hope that we'll score more than 20 points against Carolina because they have the potential to score a lot of points against us with the way Steve Smith carves up our secondary.

Yeah...Heck, I think these next two weeks should be our best to try new stuff, because we SHOULD be able to build an early lead against both, and have a little wiggle room to test out guys like Sanz and Rodriguez.

We should definitely look into doing all of those things you mentioned. There's no good reason not to. Neither team has much of a defense, so I don't think that experimenting over the following two weeks is a bad idea at all. I actually hope Tice does so.

Not just experimenting on O but D as well. I'd like to see Collins debut w/Toe. Also like to see Sanz get plenty of work.

We need a FB and Rodriguiz is it despite his light weight. 238lbs. He does have the hieght at 6'2".
If we can bulk his ass up with muscle to 250 lbs. we may have somthing when he's not hurt.
Does anybody on this board think he's a TE?
Bueller ? Bueller ?
I hope the guy comes out on Sunday and catches 50 yard passes.
I love to be proven wrong.

That's where I'd be heading with it Henry. Time to throw some new looks at them or at least some old looks with some new people playing the part.
To me Sanz would be much better for throwing those short timing routes like slants or quick hitches to. He also knows a lot more about how to work zone coverage and find the open spots than Hester does and when you throw to him on those routes he catches the ball. I think those drops last year were a case of the rookie shakes and nerves and they should be gone by now.
In this case maybe too much emphasis is being placed on how a guy practices. Hester always look great in preseason and practice. We've been hearing that tired old story for five years now but when it comes to crunch time he's the one with the nervous issue and lack of focus. You just know that's it by the way he addressed his issue with fielding punts. "I've got too much on my mind". There, he said it. He can't handle too much complex thinking. Some guys are like that and he's one of them.
Fortunately we have a guy like Sanz who is just the opposite. Since he doesn't have Hesters natural speed or elusiveness he has to be a smarter more cerebral player. In order to succeed he needs to work at it and find ways to keep himself useful. Right now he'll play like he's Tom Waddle for a shot at getting in the game more so give him his shot. He's ready and it's time.
ERod just needs to stop being played out of position. He's a Dallas Clark type TE and once Tice begins to use him that way we'll see what the kid's got. As long as he keeps him at FB he's gonna seem like a wasted pick. More square pegs in round holes crap.
