I'm still interested in seeing what this guy Eldridge can do once he learns the offense. It would be nice to see them move ERod out to where he can catch the ball. I want to see what the kid's got and we aren't gonna see that with him playing FB.

That wont happen till the OL can block for itself, hope it does happen soon.

    We need an OL.

The rest is just blowing smoke up our asses.

    TE's this ... blah blah that ...

I dont know what learning curve these fuckers are on ...

    at Halas Hall.

Maybe thats a good thing ... because if I cant figure it out ...

the oppositsion sure cant figure it out.

    THIS I DO KNOW :

Not sure how may WR's we have.

    4 TE's.

    2 RB's

    A legtimate backup QB.

An OL that is probably being bullyied in the lockeroom ...

by the DEFENSE that is carrying the load.

We DO have an OFFENSE ... I'd like to see it at Soldiers performing.

    Against the Texans.

To have a good line you have to build one. Draft right and coach them up into a unit who plays well together. You may be able to patch a single hole like LT, and we've done that quite a few times since the days of Jimbo Covert, but you can't buy an entire line like Angelo attempted once. It works for a year or two but then sets you back when you're not developing guys to replace them.

I think we aren't as far away from some success there as it may seem and I'd point to Lance Louis as an example. Low draft pick with some real athleticism but undersized and inexperienced as an OG. Now that he's gained about 20lbs and has been left to work at RG and not been moved all over the place ala CWill he's playing at damn near if not already a Pro Bowl level.

I think that given a full year of both experience and recovery from his knee injury Carimi will be fine to provided we leave him where he is and let him work through his learning curve. He's a bright guy and a good football player. He's proven that in his college career on a team that demands a lot from it's lineman and he'll get his game squared around in the pros as well.

To me the jury is still out on Rachal. He's a tough guy with a lot of size and power and maybe a better candidate for RG than LG so we'll see what happens. Maybe they can flip flop him and Louis next year and get a better combination. That said if we find a good young OG/OC prospect early in the draft I'd take him. If Rachal and Louis do lock their spots down then we can use the guy to potentially replace Garza.

Garza works OK for now but we really do eventually need younger and better in the middle than him. Maybe EWill or maybe even a guy like James Brown but I wouldn't hesitate one minute to draft another good interior lineman next April. We're barely getting by at those spots. Sox says the draft has some good interior line prospects.

Webb is Webb. I think he's getting to the point where he's serviceable but nowhere near what we need. I think we can still keep BBPB "bag of dicks" in storage for now and probably forever. This is where I'd spend my outside money in FA. Even if he's improving it's at a snail's pace and that won't do as far as winning championships go. I think we go out and but the best LT we can afford and move Webb to the swing tackle spot. At his age and as cheap as he is he's worth keeping around to see what his upper limit really is plus he could backup either OT spot.

That's how I see the line and how I'd approach things for next season. It's too late this year to do anything but hope they continue to improve.

They do jackie. I have a lot more trust in Phil Emery problem solving abilities than I ever had in Jerry Angelo's. Jerry was all excuses but Phil is all action.

Well said, Soul, and I don't think we are all that far off either from having a really solid OL. At least one that is dependable enough to not be a constant worry.

LT: We need to buy one this offseason if at all possible. I'll leave that to you cap/contract gurus to figure out how we can make space. Webb is signed for cheap and he or Scott would probably make a fine swing OT.

RT: Carimi. Enough said. He will be fine and better as time goes on.

Louis: Love the guy. A steal out of the 7th round. Sign him up Mr. Emery.

Spencer: Goner this offseason and overpaid anyway. I'd love to see his replacement (an OG/OC) drafted in say the late 2nd with a view to taking over for Garza at C in 2014 and backing up the interior in 2013.

Garza: Aging but adequate through '13.

EWill: Don't know enough to know but I suspect he's a depth guy only who could lose his roster spot next year in TC to one of our young guys like JBrown (whom from what I read is better suited to be an OG or maybe RT than a LT).

Rachal: Jury is still out but his presence supplanting Spencer at LG has definitely been a noticeable upgrade. He's the type of OLman that Tice likes and I'd like to see him re-signed if he keeps up what he's been doing.

    Solid OL Roster next September
    FA LT (Long!)
    Carimi
    Garza
    Louis
    Rachal
    Webb/Scott
    2nd round draft pick (OG/OC)
    EWill/JBrown
    ? (cheap FA vet rental)
