One of the greatest Chicago Blues artists was Pinetop Perkins. He wasn't born in Chicago, but he lived there. When he was 95 years old, he played a gig in Champaign Illinois. It was his birthday. He was a keyboard guy later in life (he originally was a guitar player but a woman cut him bad earlier in life and his left hand wasn't so good after that, and he became a great keyboard guy.

We all sang happy birthday to him that night. It was brutal hot and humid, but the guy gave an incredible concert. After the gig, he stayed a long time just talking to the fans and signing autographs. He told my son and I that he was headed back to Chicago late that night. It was really cool

He died at 97 years of age. He toured his whole life. The Blues was his life.

This vid isn't from that night at Champaign. I just found it on youtube.
