As the weeks go by, hopefully Tice, Bates and Jay get together and say "This is what works, this is what doesnt work" and if they have to trim down the play book, then you trim down the play book. Tice is new to calling plays. So i see no reason why they cant get better. What sucks is that this team has played some of the softer defenses on the schedule. SEA, HOU, SF, ARI and the GB D they always struggle against. Its probably going to be a rough go. Its all going to come down to play calling and Jay. The OL is what it is and nothing is going to change that unless Carimi gets right.
If Cutler can find a way to play with the type of confidence and accuracy he does late in games, throughout the whole game, theyll be fine. He looked well on his way last week before he got hurt. I mean, with Cutler, Marshall, Forte, Bennett and Jeffery. How hard can it be to be an above average offense? Which is really all we need with this D.
I think you hit on 2 excellent points here.
1. Moving forward, after evaluating the offensive plays to date, identify what works. Cut out the stuff that doesn't work.
2. Early in the game, call high-percentage plays that can help Cutler get a rhythm & gain confidence. That way, "Bad Jay" won't appear in these games.
It seems like most fans can clearly see what is working and why. They can clearly see what is not working. Can't Tice, Bates & Cutler see this? Or is it just Cutler saying screw it, I'm throwing deep (to B.Marsh). It's like Rex Grossman, but with a better receiver to throw to.
When Cutler holds onto the ball too long, he's the bug on the windshield = sacks & fumbles. That just isn't working.

If we can't get the line to play at a better level, game after game, then our running and passing game just is going to jell. They don't have to be Pro Bowl players but they do need to start working better together if we are going to make into the play offs.

You know, i wasnt a huge fan of that pass to Marshall that resulted in an INT but i feel like Jay could have made that throw a week ago, before the injury. At the time it didnt seem like such a bad idea with Forte running well and you were still at that point where you felt the defense was going to dominate the game. But thats Tice. Run the ball, PA deep. But i dont feel like Jay goes that deep to Marshall that often.
I agree though on the early play calling. They also need to try and add more screens for Forte. We rarely see it but when we do, its blown up before it begins. But Jay does get to change the plays if he gets the look he wants so who knows whats really going on. I know a lot of people(i wasnt one of them) who were nervous about Jay getting too much power in the offense. A yes guy in Bates and Tice, first year OC.
I have no issue with Jay holding onto the ball too long. Its much better than a couple years ago where he would just chuck it for an INT. He seems incapable of throwing the ball away. Jay is what he is. Poor mans Brett Favre.

Just MAYBE, sometimes throw the ball AWAY, out of bounds. JC doesn't always have to TRY. take the INComplete and move on. Got pressure , move outta the pocket and throw it away. that JUST might help some.
EDIT ok the OL giving protection would be a better choice.

Havent we seen enough of Jay to believe that this isnt the way he does things? After 7 years, its going to be hard to change this guy

Indeed, I've been thinking about that a few times aswell doing the game. He lose yards or get sacked..
Also when he runs I always wonder why the hell don't he slide when they're about to hit you. You saw RG3 earlier in this season getting a full hit on the helm because he didn't slide.. I'd hate to see an injurie to Jay because he didn't slide..

What are the run averages which set up the passing game

You mean what are the passing averages EARLY that don't allow the run?

WTF, who in the hell wants to buy cheap levitra? Seriously, if you want a good boner then find a nice woman that works. Second Punt the ball on first down and let the defense do their mojo and score. Our Offense doesn't have to put up 30 pts again and if we start out slow big deal. When the final score has the bears on top than that is all that matters. Personally I would run the ball on every down since I have Matt Forte on my FF team. I also have the bears defense on my FF team so it is a win/win situation for me.
