I've said from the get-go, having Tice as OC hurts us in two ways:
    1. Hes not coaching our Line anymore. Anyone notice how the last 2 years the line has been playing pretty good by this point in the season? This season they are still struggling, not a coincidence. Tice is one of the GREAT Line coaches out there right now.
Our offensive lines by this point in 2010 and 2011 were things of horror and ridicule. Tice managed to have the 32nd and 31st ranked offensive lines in those years. Heck at this point we one week removed from Chris Williams first stint at LG against Haynesworth and the Redskins.

If he couldn't do it in Jacksonville why do we think he can do it here? Is it his first year in this offense? YES. Is Tice a rookie OC? NO.
Tice was the TE coach in Jax. That was discussed ad nauseum on the CBMB. This is his first stint as an offensive coordinator.

All that being said, we can't switch now. You have to work with the guy at this point. Lovie needs to step in like he did with Martz and maybe even possibly take it away from him at certain points. We need to run the ball more with forte/bush, Hester should never see the ball on offense ever. Our TE's have proven capable end zone targets, use them in the end zone and nowhere else. Get rid of half of the tight ends on the team, at this point I'd rather have Plaxico Burress than sign another damn tight end, if all those tight ends aren't an ego trip for Tice then I don't know what is.

Bates is the one who is unproven and switching to him mid-stream in a winning season would be a huge mistake. I think part of Tices problem is that he feels like he needs to feed the beast so to speak when it comes to Marshall, we have to keep that guy happy and we know that WR's are all babys.
Disagree about adding Plax. Adding a bench player in Eldridge is nothing to get up in arms about. Just a depth signing in case our current crop of imbeciles at TE continue to suck and get hurt we can have a new face to suck and get hurt. It's all about planning.

I expected it would take a few games as OC to knock off some rust and get a feel for what this group of players could, and could not do. To me that seemed reasonable. But now he's had a number of games under his belt, and he should have a solid idea of this offense, and what works & what doesn't work.

I look at this offense and see plenty of talent. I grouch about the oline, but it seems "good enough" that you can't blame all of our woes on the oline. It's the play calling that is hurting the offense now. Every team in the NFL has a less-than-perfect set of player resources. That's why you tailor your game to what you have. And, part of that is play calling that fits your existing team's strengths, while limiting the effect of your weaknesses.

Maybe I'm dense, but it just doesn't seem like this should still be a problem with Tice at this point of our season.
Totally agree, I just can't see us continuing down the road we are going and having any success with Tice. Unless something drastically changes we are in for some serious disappointment this season. I've been waiting almost 30 years for another championship, anything less is failure in my mind.

This is not Tice's first stint calling plays. I'm tired of discussing it, its well documented.

Our offensive lines were good enough to win by this point the last few years. I guess producing things of "horror" and "ridicule" is the way to get promoted in the Bears organization. No, sorry he is an awesome O Line coach. Thats why he got promoted, they mistakenly thought he could have similar success on the next level. We never had any talent last year and we were 7 - 3. We never had any talent in 2010 and we were even better. Tice was a big part of that, getting those guys to play beyond what they would have been capable of.

Your point about Tice being a bad OL coach makes no sense

I seriously am too lazy to help you out here Riczaj, I can't recall ever seeing Hester like that on the sidelines. But on that note, Shark might have a point. If I ever do see it, I'll be sure to try checking if Andrew Stoker is holding a remote.

I see a Reebok logo on the shoulder. Can't be this year. I don't recall the game either.

It was against the Vikings, October 19th 2008.

All-around effort helps Bears hang on to tight win over Vikings

    Associated Press
CHICAGO -- The last time the Chicago Bears scored this many points, Walter Payton was taking handoffs and Mike Ditka was prowling the sideline.
Kyle Orton threw two touchdown passes, special teams chipped in with two more and the Bears hung on for a 48-41 victory over the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday. Fast Facts

    • The 48-41 final represented the highest combined score between the Bears and Vikings in their series history.
    • Adrian Peterson is just the fifth player in the Super Bowl era (since 1966) to rush for at least two touchdowns in each of his first three games against one opponent.

    • The Vikings' 41 points were the most allowed by the Bears in a victory in franchise history. In fact, the three highest point totals allowed in a win by the Bears have now all come against Minnesota.

    • The Vikings have given up five special teams touchdowns this season.
    -- ESPN research

Chicago intercepted Gus Frerotte four times even though its injury-riddled secondary was missing starting cornerbacks Nathan Vasher and Charles Tillman along with nickel back Danieal Manning. The Bears also lost star kick returner Devin Hester to a bruised quad in the third quarter, yet still managed to put up their most points since beating Tampa Bay 48-14 at home on Dec. 7, 1986.

It was the most points Chicago has allowed in a win, and the total of 89 tied a record set in a 51-38 loss at Baltimore in October 1958."We've got a group of guys who are together," Orton said. "It doesn't matter what happens outside that huddle.

It's everybody inside the huddle working for a common goal and we work together very well."The Bears survived a late push by Minnesota after building a 17-point lead and won even though Adrian Peterson ran for 121 yards and two touchdowns, including a 54-yarder. NFL.com

"It feels like we keep killing ourselves," Peterson said. "We put up [439] yards on a pretty good defense."But it wasn't enough.Orton completed 21 of 32 passes for 283 yards, including a 51-yard touchdown pass to Marty Booker made it 41-31 with 2:35 left in the third quarter. Kevin Payne then picked off Frerotte, and after a questionable pass interference call against Vinny Ciurciu on fourth down at the 1, Matt Forte ran it in to extend Chicago's lead to 48-31 in the opening seconds of the fourth.Minnesota got a 23-yard field goal from Ryan Longwell, and former Bear Bernard Berrian capped a 75-yard drive with a 5-yard touchdown catch that made it a seven-point game with 3 minutes left. But this time, the Bears hung on.

    Tommie Harris
sacked Frerotte after Minnesota (3-4) took over at the 25 with just over a minute left following a punt, and rookie Zackary Bowman sealed it with an interception after being elevated from the practice squad during the week.So instead of bemoaning another lost opportunity, the Bears (4-3) breathed a sigh of relief. They've blown fourth-quarter leads in each of their losses."We're not playing very good defense right now," safety Mike Brown said. "Right now, it seems like we're lost, can't find a rhythm."This loss will only add to the angst of Vikings fans calling for coach Brad Childress' dismissal.

There were several questionable decisions to go with the sloppy play by the special teams. Berrian, who signed a six-year deal with Minnesota, caught six passes for 81 yards against his former team, but the interceptions by Frerotte were costly."We thought with their starting corners down and their starting nickel down we thought were would be able to throw the ball downfield a little bit," said Frerotte, who was 25-for-40 with 298 yards after winning three of his first four starts.

"We had the run and the pass going all day and we mixed them up pretty well, just when it came down to the end we didn't get it done."The special teams were a mess, too, and now they've allowed five touchdowns. The first one Sunday came on a strange sequence in the opening quarter, when Chris Kluwe dropped a snap and had his punt blocked. He then attempted an illegal kick, and Garrett Wolfe returned it 17 yards for a touchdown. Later, Charles Gordon mishandled a punt by Brad Maynard when he tried to block Bowman.

Instead, the ball hit him and Bowman recovered it in the end zone for a touchdown that gave Chicago a 24-17 lead.Ahead by three, the Bears increased it to 10 on the opening drive of the third quarter, thanks to another lucky bounce. With the ball on the Minnesota 36, Desmond Clark caught a short pass and then fumbled at the 1 when he got sandwiched by Tyrell Johnson and Cedric Griffin. Rashied Davis recovered in the end zone to make it 34-24.

The Vikings were driving for the lead after Orton fumbled but couldn't convert a fourth-and-1 from the Chicago 36 when Frerotte couldn't connect on a short pass intended for Berrian with just over 4 minutes left in the third.Booker then caught a 51-yard touchdown pass that made it 41-31 with 2:35 left in the third. Kevin Payne's 50-yard interception return to the Vikings 6 led to a 1-yard TD run by Forte that made it 48-31 to start the fourth.Game notes
