Would you like to see Jeremy Bates take over the play calling?
I don't think anyone here is pleased with Mike Tice's play calling. Would you like to see Jeremy Bates take over the play calling? Do you think this is a possibility, or will Tice/Lovie continue to keep trying to get it right?
p.s. And what's with the Bears and play calling woes these past several years? Ron Turner was bad. Martz worse, and now Tice looks like a bumbling idiot. Maybe the worst of the three. Is it because no credible offensive guru wants to come to a defensive team like the Bears?

I;ve actually thought about this but haven't said anything. For all I know, that is what is happening right now. Does anyone really know whether or not he is calling the plays right now? The initial speculation was that he would be a main part of the passing plays and Tice the running plays.
Well, we don't call enough running plays and we don't complete enough passing plays.
I know the O is not the "explosive" offense Tice promised us, but on what basis do we think it would be under Bates? He hasn't been an OC as far as I know. And again, it may be him calling this stuff anyway. Whatever arrangement is happening right now, it has room for improvement though.
I wouldn't be surprised to see some changes for next year if we are not able to compete with the better teams in the second half of the schedule.

Oh hell, Tice just got the clipboard and he's more than likely got eyes on being a HC. No way he relegates play calling to Bates no matter how good an idea it seems. He's a hammerhead on drafting any OL do you think he would swallow his pride right off the bat? Doubtful. He'd bench Webb first before we'd see anything like that.
If anything Bates would "consult" and Tice would use elements or plays of that.

Hindsight being 20/20, should have made this a poll. I've called for this before. As soon as he and Marshall were in The Den, I thought it would wind up that way. Stupid me.

Tice is the one calling plays and Tice is the one responsible for the game plan and neither have been very good so far. He's a rookie OC handling vet players with vet skills and he hasn't even come close to using them very well at all.
When a team with running backs and a QB like we have are averaging just over 4 ypa on first down and seem to be leading the league in second and third and long situations that goes on the play caller. When your team is getting hosed on offensive early in the game that goes on the game plan and the OC who prepared it.
So whose the HMFIC of the offense? So who should we be looking to as far as fixing these problems.
So yes I think Bates should be more involved in both phases. I also believe that if this situation doesn't improve soon as we start losing games because the offense still can't compete that Mike Tice will not be OC of the Bears next year and Jeremy Bates will. If he hadn't turned us down to take that Seattle job all for the privilege of being fired by that dickhead Pete Carroll then it's likely Bates would have been in his 3rd year as our OC right now and we wouldn't be struggling the way we are.
I honestly thought Tice was better than he's proven to be.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

Soul - not sure how you can say that with any surety unless they are letting you in on strategy. Obviously, Tice is responsible - no argument there, but I would say none of us has any real knowledge of how involved Bates is in calling plays - especially passing plays.

Houston is right, we don't know how much influence Bates already has.
That said, if he is not in the loop, I think it could be beneficial to give it a try (on a trial basis), but we just don't know. I still don't know why we don't bootleg more. I understand there are a lot of variables involved in that (mostly math-up and defensive schemes being shown during the game), but there have been any number of times where I have been yelling at the TV..."BOOTLEG"!!
Cutler is good at it, we have a running game that can help sell it, why not try it?
I just can't tell on TV if our wideouts are just not getting open besides Marshall or if Jay just isn't seeing them. Regardless, the offense needs to get better if this team is indeed for real. Otherwise, our tougher part of the schedule is going to knock us back down to earth.

It looks to me like Cutler is throwing to people he has confidence in. That is B.Marsh, Forte, Bennett and Alshon when he's healthy. When guys drop balls, it's like that person is dead to Cutler. The other people are open. Jay just doesn't seem to want to throw to them. Which makes me wonder if Cutler is "doing his own thing" to a certain extent, and not caring what Tice wants. Cutler wants to pass. He wants to pass deep. He wants to pass to B.Marsh. End of story.

Of the three Martz was the best. How do you take a guy like Turner back and fire him twice? Terrible move there and turner is a terrible OC.
I've said from the get-go, having Tice as OC hurts us in two ways:
1. Hes not coaching our Line anymore. Anyone notice how the last 2 years the line has been playing pretty good by this point in the season? This season they are still struggling, not a coincidence. Tice is one of the GREAT Line coaches out there right now.
2. He is terrible as OC. He was OC in Jacksonville for 4 years and they STUNK, I repeat STUNK that place up offensively. He knows nothing about how to call a game. If he couldn't do it in Jacksonville why do we think he can do it here? Is it his first year in this offense? YES. Is Tice a rookie OC? NO.
That is the double edged sword of Tice as OC.
All that being said, we can't switch now. You have to work with the guy at this point. Lovie needs to step in like he did with Martz and maybe even possibly take it away from him at certain points. We need to run the ball more with forte/bush, Hester should never see the ball on offense ever. Our TE's have proven capable end zone targets, use them in the end zone and nowhere else. Get rid of half of the tight ends on the team, at this point I'd rather have Plaxico Burress than sign another damn tight end, if all those tight ends aren't an ego trip for Tice then I don't know what is.
Bates is the one who is unproven and switching to him mid-stream in a winning season would be a huge mistake. I think part of Tices problem is that he feels like he needs to feed the beast so to speak when it comes to Marshall, we have to keep that guy happy and we know that WR's are all babys.
