I learned that, when you wake up, switch on the tube and see a '51' in the scorebar next to The Bears... Mondays aren't half-bad.

Message: Beer'd
    I learned the following:

    1) Our offense, through both long drive and short field situations as a result of takeaway recoveries, scored 37 points against the Titans defense, which coming into this week was ranked 31st in the league. Between the three running backs and Cutler, the offense rushed for 160 yards. Cutler passed for 229 yards on 19 of 26 completions with 3 TD passes and once again had an extremely high QBR (138.1). I dare say that those numbers would have been a hell of a lot better had we kept our first team offense in the game.

    2) The defense got jobbed in the first half, because both the safety and the field goal were squarely on the offensive line for committing a stupid penalty (Webb's illegal hands to the face) and giving up a sack that caused Cutler to fumble the ball away which created the first 5 points of the game. In reality, the first team offense only gave up 7 points on the bomb from Hasselbeck to Kendall Wright in the end zone. That touchdown run by Chris Johnson came in garbage time when we had our scrubs in the game. Other than that, this defense in reality gave up under 300 yards of total offense, and even though the first teamers didn't play past early in the fourth quarter, the combined pass defense effort in terms of passing yards allow was only 174 yards on the game! I don't fault the 80 yard touchdown run, though, since the main defensive players were out of the game on that play.

    3) The Bears also have the best special teams unit in the NFL and have had that distinction for the entire time Lovie Smith has been head coach. Blocking a punt and returning it for a touchdown, no matter how poor the blocking was on the part of the Titans, was pretty awesome, and even Devin Hester had a nice punt return today that almost yielded a touchdown, which would have tied him with the great Deion Sanders for most returns for touchdowns.

    4) Matt Forte is still the heart and soul of this offense. Without him, this offense simply doesn't exist. Michael Bush struggled today to get anything going as the Titans clogged up the middle to prevent him from laying the hammer down on their defensive front four, so it was nice to see Forte not only rush for 103 yards on only 12 carries, but also have a big day receiving and even bulldozing his way in from about ten yards out for a touchdown after the Devin Hester punt return.

    5) If Hester ever decides to quit "freelancing" as Thom Brennamen and Brian Billick were speaking about, he'll return more kick returns for big yards. As I've said a couple of times in recent weeks, Hester is not the runner he used to be from 2006-2011. He's getting older, and he plays a lot on offense. He's going to have to start hitting his holes better and not trying to make something out of nothing all the time.

    6) This offensive line sucks. We gave up another 3 sacks today against one of the worst defenses in the league, and that's unacceptable. I looked up Jay Cutler's statistics just a few minutes ago from the 2008 season in Denver, and he only was sacked 11 times all year! We nearly have triple that total now! We have got to address the weaknesses this offensive line has during the offseason through free agency and the draft. We need a LT and another OG. Luckily, there are three Pro Bowlers on the market at the end of this year and there are any number of good offensive linemen available in the first round of the draft if we choose to draft one. Tice is going to have to eat a bag of dicks I'm afraid and swallow his pride because his "coaching 'em up" simply hasn't worked.

    7) Brandon Marshall may be an All Pro this year, no joke! He should be leading the league in touchdowns by a wide receiver, or if he doesn't, he is really close. He is on pace to have the greatest season by a Bears wide out in the history of the franchise.

    8) For those of you who are unhappy with a 51-20 win, I don't know what can possibly make you happy. Sure, there are things this team can still work on and get better even from looking at the box score of this game, but all in all, this was the most points scored by a Bears team since the 1980 Bears put up like 61 points on the Packers.

**I will go on record and say that if the offense can score 17-24 points next week against the Texans, we will win. Houston struggled to scored points against the Bills today, and Matt Schaub still hasn't had a 300+ yard passing game yet this season. We can match up wits with any running game in my mind, and I will bet you that the Texans won't put up more than 10-17 points next week. My prediction for a final score: Bears 27, Texans 17.

Dags, this O is almost a damned if you don't, if you do type of thing going on. The D/St's gave them a lead and great field position early, so they didn't have to do much. I think the neg comes from when they weren't handed great field position they didn't do anything; ie caused a S/FG. This O NEEDS to be smoother early on, and like you and I said, that has to happen via the run.
This is the 2nd to worst ranked D, and this team still found a way to give up 3 sacks a S and a Cutler TO. Next week will be a MUCH different story w/a complete team(as complete as the Bears) come to town. Schaub/Foster are not likely to give cough up 5 TO's and Hou is not likely to give up 2 D/ST's TD's. So that means the Points are going to have to be on the O, and the Bears cannot afford to get into the RZ and have field goals like they did much of the 2nd and 3rd qtr's.

We won by 31 pts in a game that never was close and read more complaints than anything else... something is wrong here guys.

The Offense scored 4 TDs and 3 FGs... That's 37 Points coming from the Offense. Can we now stop with the offense sucks, Cutler sucks, Playcalling was bad and so on?
    Other teams aren't better...

In trash time when the game was over, but yes JJ the other 39 points came from the O; good to see you've kept up w/the conversation. The point was this O in just about every game has needed the D to either hand them a score via turn over/field position or score themselves before the O could get the ball moving and sustain drives/score on their own. They have struggled to move the ball and get a score early on w/out the D handing it to them. And against your elite teams it's not going to be so easy for the D to do that for them. Even the players are talking about having to get off to quicker starts on O.

This is what we learned. The Bears became the first NFL team to ever score touchdowns in one quarter via pass, rush, interception return and special-teams block.

Thats 14 points for ST and Defense and 14 points for the Offense all in the First Quarter and not as you said during trash time of the game.

Like i said in "what we learned" here comes the slower fans talking about the box score. Guess what, the box score is lying to you.

1st scoring drive: 1 play, 8 yards, 8 yard TD run Matt Forte.
2nd scoring drive: 3 plays, 16 yards, 13 yard TD pass to Brandon Marshall
3rd scoring drive: 5 plays, 65 yards, 39 yard TD pass to Brandon Marshall (woweee Mom look I did it all by myself)
4th scoring drive: 3 plays 2 yards, 5 yard TD pass to Brandon Marshall

So the offense scored 21 points in 7 plays going only 26 yards.

It is absolutely idiotic to think that our offense deserves any credit at all for those scores. Just because the offense took it into the end zone you think they played well when in reality only the opposite can be true, IF THEY DIDN'T SCORE IN THOSE SITUATIONS IT WOULD BE HUMILIATING. My god we are talking about the second worst defense in the NFL here, if we can't move the ball on them then what hope do we have. Cutler still getting dropped like a sack of bricks, fumbling the ball, and there are drive-killing penalties. No, the offenses performance was unacceptable.

The reality is that between Urlacher's score and Wooten's score plus the 21 points scored on easy setups by the defense/ST, the defense/ST is responsible for 35 of the points scored. You can credit the offense for generating 16 points against the second worst defense in the NFL.

Lord help you if you think we can stop worrying about how bad the offense is.

You are correct about one thing though, other teams aren't better!
