Should a team get the ball back when they score a defensive touchdown?
I thought about this during the game yesterday after Urlacher ran the INT back for a TD. I suddenly thought that it seemed a little unfair that a team that scores a defensive TD doesn't still get the ball back on offense. It happens with safeties, so why not defensive TDs? Maybe I'm biased because the Bears are scoring a defensive TD just about every week now, but was wondering what you all thought.

I've always thought that was unfair as well. Your D scores, then they get punished by having to go back out on the field, likely tired after a long runback. Yeah, you can rest a guy or two on the next play, but the whole D runs the ball back, not just the ball carrier.

It makes sense Papa, but it won't ever happen, it's too much of a swing. the Safety is only 2 points which can be overcome; not to mention VERY rare.

Ehh, the objective of the game is to score (preferably TDs). If you score a TD, it only makes sense to kick to the other team. You don't need to get the ball back if you just scored a TD. If Urlacher thought the defense needed a rest, he could have went down at the 5 yardline and given the offense three shots to get in, but that would have been dumb.
With safeties only being worth two points, it makes sense to penalize the team for committing one. If teams got the ball back after giving up a safety, they would strategically take safeties. For instance, if a team is down 1,4 or 5 points and pinned at the 5 with three minutes left, they could just run out of the back of the endzone and know they would get better field position on a kickoff. Nobody is ever going to try to throw a pick-6 to get better field position, so that's not a concern.

We do better than way than when we start and our own 20 and have to move it 80 yards by ourselves with just the offense.

LOL, NO, LMAO. But there ia alot of truth to what you say. Remember the Def saying( back in the OLD days ) " Just hold them".
