Really? Some of you think a work schedule of 1 Sunday a week for a couple months trumps being there for the birth of his child? Or that they should do something other than a natural birth just to meet a schedule that allows him to play football?

The "D" isn't good enough to allow a player to be absent one game for what may be 1 of only a couple life-changing experiences? The entire year is gonna go down the shitter because Peanut isn't there?

    You "true fans" are un-fricken-believable.

I agree loki. This is not something you just put on hold. Of course, I am hoping that the baby doesn't come until Monday or so, but if the baby comes Sunday, I can't fault Peanut for wanting to be there with his newborn child. I think anyone who would say otherwise is probably devoid of a beating heart.

Loki - I guess we have a different perspective on the intrusiveness of inducing labor. I don't consider it to be a big deal at all or that you are giving up something special by doing so. When a woman has broken water but not started contractions, they will indice. If she is more than two weeks late, they will induce. There are many circumstances they will induce.

I don't think anyone (including myself) is advocating inducing labor at the expense of or even slight risk of either mother or child. Football is NOWHERE near as important as family or human life.

If I had a majorly important business trip and my wife was within a few weeks of having a baby, I would not in the least hesitate to induce labor to make sure that I was there for the birth and that I could still be on the trip. I just don't see why having your cake and being able to eat it is a bad thing.

No one is saying that family is not as important as football. I'm just saying that a choice is not necessary. Obviously, if you had to make a choice between a football game and the health of a family member, there is no real decision. Anyone that would choose something over their family needs to have a priority check. Heck, choosing a football CAREER over family health is unthinkable -- a single game obviously just a speck in the sand in comparison.

My feeling is that these two things are not mutually excusive. You can do both with no risk. I don't understand why you wouldn't want to.

Why are we whining about something that is really a non-issue? Either he plays or he doesn't on Sunday when/if she gives birth. We have such depth at the CB position that I'm not really worried if Peanut isn't there. Kelvin Hayden is more than adequate enough to do the job in my opinion. I think Peanut should get his camcorder and film his wife having that baby!

Bears’ teammates understand if Tillman misses Sunday’s game for birth of child

Chicago Bears cornerback Charles Tillman (33) brings down Tennessee Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt (18) in the first quarter of an NFL football game on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, in Nashville, Tenn. (AP Photo/Joe Howell)

    Updated: November 8, 2012 2:25AM

Family comes first. It’s what Bears cornerback Charles Tillman strongly believes and what coach Lovie Smith has preached for years.

So if Tillman — a leading candidate for Defensive Player of the Year — misses the game Sunday night against the Houston Texans to be with his wife for the birth of their fourth child, that’s just fine with his teammates.

“It’s family first,” Smith said. “If there is something you feel like you need to do for your family always do that. How we look at it is like an injury. If a player can’t go, it’s next guy up. We’ll keep going.”

Tillman told WSCR-670 AM Wednesday morning that he and his wife, Jackie, are expecting the birth of their daughter on Monday, but also that he would be at the hospital Sunday night if needed.

“At the end of the day, [family is] all that you have,” Tillman said later after practice. “This game is important to me, but after what we went through with my middle child Tiana (who was diagnosed with a rare heart disease), to me football is second.

“It’ll always be second or third in my life. That was a great lesson learned, to teach me that family — when I’m done playing football — my family will always be there for me.”

Tillman, though, did say if their daughter is born Sunday morning he’ll play that night. “Yeah, I’ll be there,” he said.

Either way, Tillman’s teammates say they support him.

“It’s take care of your family. We understand how things are run around here,” receiver Brandon Marshall said. “This is a special group. Coach Smith is a special guy, definitely in how he runs things, and … you take on the character of your leader. That’s what he preaches — family comes first.”

    Some more honors
Linebacker Brian Urlacher was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week after having a 46-yard interception return for a touchdown, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in the Bears’ 51-20 rout of the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.
Cornerback Sherrick McManis also was named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Week for a blocking a punt that led to defensive end Corey Wootton’s touchdown.
Urlacher and McManis are the first teammates to win player of the week awards in the same week since 2008.
    Notes
Receiver Alshon Jeffery (fractured right hand) didn’t practice Wednesday, while defensive linemen Israel Idonije (ankle), Henry Melton (back) and Matt Toeaina (calf) were limited.
◆ The NFL reportedly fined Titans quarterback Matt Hasselbeck $15,750 for an illegal horse-collar tackle on Bears nickelback Kelvin Hayden.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

This is pretty sad news, but given his experience with births and such I can understand his decision even tho he misses a importen game. Family comes first and that's how it is you can't really blame him. I just hope she'll give birth to a healthy new Peanut early enough, so we can see our beloved Peanut play for his new born.

As I have said, I have no problem with him missing the game, but les shake up things a bit to add a level of importance.

what if it were Cutler who had a child expected any day? As good as Tillman is, Cutler is more important. What say you?

No difference for me. If you HAVE to make a choice, always pick family. In most child birth cases a choice is not required and you can induce labor and do both. I would go with the second option and do both. Seems like Peanut also decided in that direction.
