Marshall For What It's Worth and That's a Lot..............

Miller: Marshall is worth his weight in gold

    November 6, 2012, 2:42 pm

    JIM MILLER

The Bears are at the halfway point of the season and prized off-season acquisition Brandon Marshall currently ranks second in the NFL in receiving. Only Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Reggie Wayne has more yardage, but Marshall leads the NFC. Here is a list of Marshall’s closest challengers and their current rank:

Barring injury, Marshall will have his work cut out for him in terms of deciding who the best wide receiver is not only in the NFC, but also the NFL as a whole. Marshall is about to face some of the best pass defenses and secondaries in the league entering the second-half of the Bears season.

Matchups against Houston and San Francisco will be a difficult start, and facing the Seahawks and Cardinals won't make for an easy time either. But Marshall's already faced the Dallas Cowboys, whose passing defense rounds out the NFL's top five. The only top five passing defense Marshall has yet to face belongs to the Pittsburgh Steelers, who are ranked at No. 1.

As the saying goes, "In order to be the best, you've got to beat the best." Marshall will have an opportunity to erase all doubt of where he stands in the league after facing some of the stiffest competition of the 2012 season.

I think I'm gonna wake up one of these days and find this was all just a dream. A bears WR second in the NFL in receiving and a QB with a rating of over 100 in his last five games????

Is the sky still blue and grass still green or are we on a different planet?

Matchup of Elites II: Joseph vs. Marshall

    November 7, 2012, 10:11 pm

Cutler, Marshall on Bears' OJay Cutler and Brandon Marshall discuss the Bears' offense and how they plan on improving from one week to the next - 11/7

Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall ranks fourth in the NFL with 59 catches and is within three scores of his career high of 10. Houston cornerback Johnathan Joseph, like Charles Tillman, has two interceptions, one returned for a touchdown.

Marshall is 6-4 and expecting to see a great deal of 5-11 Joseph, the Texans’ tallest cornerback. They were teammates on the 2011 AFC Pro Bowl team.

“He's playing the position better than most guys in this league right now, he's confident, he's tough to play against, you know the way he plays his technique, he plays within the system. I'm going to have my work cut out for me this weekend.”

Texans coach Gary Kubiak was on the AFC Pro Bowl staff last year when Marshall was a member of the squad.

“Of course I got to see Brandon firsthand up at the Pro Bowl,” Kubiak said. “We had him this year and you all know what he did there so I know what type of talent he is.”

And Marshall, whose entire pre-Chicago career was spent in the AFC, knows Joseph, a No. 1 pick of Cincinnati in 2006. He has faced Joseph four times, catching 19 passes for 235 yards but only one touchdown, last year in a loss to the Texans.

“This is a team where I'm going to have some one-on-one coverage with their Pro Bowl corner, Joseph,” Marshall said. “I've gone up against him a few times, and he's a top-three corner in this league right now.”
