LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- The Chicago Bears have listed their top special teams tackler cornerback Sherrick McManis as questionable for Monday night due to a hip strain he suffered in the team's Week 5 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars prior to the bye week.
McManis, who played at Northwestern University, has thrived on special teams since the Bears acquired him from the Houston Texans via a trade on August 31. He leads the team with five special teams stops.
"We've been very pleased with (how he's done) in the role we pictured him being in when he got here," Bears head coach Lovie Smith said. "He's a special teams player, but we've also been bringing him along as a corner. So I'm glad we brought him home."
Newly re-signed cornerback Zack Bowman would likely fill in if McManis is inactive against the Detroit Lions.
Wide receiver Devin Hester (quad) and linebacker Blake Costanzo (thumb) are listed as probable on the official injury report.
Receiver Earl Bennett, middle linebacker Brian Urlacher and defensive end Julius Peppers all returned to practice on Saturday after sitting out the previous day.
Rookie wideout Alshon Jeffery (hand) had already been ruled out earlier in the week.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

I don't think there's any question that most of us would rather have seen us keep Clutts but it's not like all we got was a bag of peanuts and an empty beer cup for him. McManis was STeams star in Houston and he's been replicating that here as well.
Let's hope this new guy Eldridge can make the loss of Clutts hurt a little less.

I agree. Peanuts and no beer would have been bad. Real bad

I think it was a great trade, actually. Sherrick's been every bit the competitor on ST that Graham was, and that's a huge complement coming from a huge fan of Graham's ST play. The big thing is that he's under control for a couple seasons at roughly 1/6th the price of Corey over that time. Solid, solid gunner.

Plus I think Rodriquez (sp?) will be back this week as FB/HB which will help the running game.

I'm just happy we got something for Clutts. The what that makes me crazy is our drafting guys in the 1st round, and then cutting them for zero compensation - and they perform well for years to come with another NFL team.
That is what makes me crazy.
Not trading our undrafted free agent FB who came from the Edmonton Eskimos, Utah Blaze & the Sacramental Mountain Lions (Clutts). At least we got a 5th round CB for our arena league guy.
Giving away our 1st rounders (for nothing) is getting old.

Trestman - Kromer - Tucker - DeCamillis
I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.

With so many teams need O linemen I can't see why we didn't get something for C Williams even a 7th would have been better then the nothing we did get.
This team is like a lot of jobs if someone higher up doesn't like yuo your on the outs, even if you are good at your job, you just won't ever be as good as what they demand that you be because of their dislike for you.

JJ - I think it's strictly how we managed it. We telegraphed our intentions. We sat him out for two games. Everyone knew he was going away. Why pay for something you can get for free?

You are 100% right.
I'm not saying we could get a high round pick for the guy, but at least get something.

It wasn't that we sat him. He wasn't playing anyway so they just kept him inactive. In retrospect when Tice replaced Spencer with Rachal it was over for him.
If there was any chance that we was gonna get his spot back it would have been then. So when you combine acquiring Rachal and Scott with his failure to take LT away from Webb and that was all she wrote for CWill. We wouldn't have offered him an extension anyway just to sit on the bench or the inactive list. Not when we have a young guy like Brown on the PS we'll need to put of the 53 man roster at some point in order to protect him.
My guess is that Emery did some calling around maybe even before he was inactivated but what would you get for the guy? We have a rep of having one of he worst lines in the NFL and he couldn't even crack the starting lineup here so that's not a great advertisement for his value.
Not all, but some, were and still are saying that he's a bum and a wasted pick so how can anyone say that in one breath and then expect to get even a 7th round pick for him let alone anything higher in the next breath. If he had any trade value I'm sure Emery would have found someone willing to take him but he didn't so they released him.
