Any OC that has to have a "comin' to Jesus" meeting w/the HC about how they call their plays weather it be Tice or Martz has problems from the get-go. I don't know if OC's suffer from stubbornness, hubris, lack of perspective, or just myopia but if they can't adapt they should be GONE. Weather it's not being able to audible, run the ball, or developing a well thought out tactical game plan that emphasizes strengths and hiding weaknesses.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.

Oh Joy......... Just what we need. Why couldn't we someone else?

Done deal. They signed him and waived tight end Brody Eldridge. How the hell are we going to get by with only four tight ends?

Yea I'm sort of tired of talking about OC's at this point, we all know Tice and Martz did a shit job.
I just look at a team like the texans who have one of the best offenses in the league and I say to myself:
"Hey, these guys have a game-plan and they are sticking to it. They are running that stretch play and it is working. Hey look they scored more points than us and won because they had a plan and stuck to it. Wow what a novel idea."
Then I look at the Bears and I think to myself:
"Hmm, there hasn't been one game all season in which I saw a definite game plan the Bears stuck to. I see a random hodge-podge of plays that don't work."
I think one thing that has been holding the play calling back is that we have to bring 7 or 8 guys to block 4 on most plays. Thats why Watt was so quiet Sunday, we had him doubled almost every play. But that only leaves room for 1 or 2 receiver that are covered by the other 7 guys on the field.
I always tell people I want to live to be 150 and they say "why would you want to do that?" I say, "well, there's a few people I haven't made mad yet, I want to get them."

I'm not giving Tice any credit. I think his playcalling has been atrocious. He hasn't shown any sort of strength in strategic planning.
What I AM pointing out is that you are taking statistics and are basing our offenses abilities on nothing more than numbers, and by reading your consistantly negative, ranting, chicken little, the sky is falling, this team blows posts, you'd think we were 2-7 instead of 7-2.
So, while you are sick of these "homers", I'm quite sick of debbie downers...
Only thing I come down hard on is the offense. It's maddening to me to see all this talent go to waste on a "rookie" offensive coordinator who is just "cutting his teeth" on offense this year.
This is a super-bowl-run year, just like last year and 2010. We have been legit contenders for 3 years now and (as it is for most teams) the contender window is very short. We are close to rebuild mode on defense (2 to 3 years away max). This is not the time for anyone to be "cutting their teeth" on anything. The personnel mismanagement and play-calling mismanagement drives me up the wall.
Our offensive line isn't perfect but there are a lot of things we could do to work within the abilities of our offensive line. The simple solution is to run the ball more, run stretch plays like the Texans, run up the middle with Bush, and run toss plays with Forte when they stack the box. The best part about run-blocking is that its F-ing easy compared to pass-blocking. But whatever Tice decides to do, stick to it. Just because every play isn't a 40 yard gain doesn't mean the plan isn't working.
If my opinions make me a downer, then so be it.

I'm getting sick of seeing the 1 receiver plays. This isn't little league football.

I'm just as antsi as you are about this year, and am just as confused about the play calling. Last year Forte had a shit ton of receiving yards. This year (unless I'm not seeing it) there has been an absolute absense of swing passes and screens or dump offs, and no stretch runs. Forte is the perfect RB for stretch run plays.
Last week it was either 2nd and 1 or 3rd and one and we ran a no back set. Pissed me off more than anything how inept the playcalling is.

All 4 TE's don't add up to one decent NFL TE.

When you have the kind of monster production out of the position that we do, you can get by with just 4. They're just that good.
