(WSCR) With Jay Cutler’s status uncertain after sustaining a concussion in the Bears loss to the Texans on Sunday night, the team is expected to re-sign veteran quarterback Josh McCown.
Next to Cutler, Jason Campbell is the only other quarterback on the Bears roster. Rookie Matthew Blanchard is on the team’s practice squad.
The 33-year-old McCown was signed by the Bears last season as a backup to Caleb Hanie after Cutler went down with a thumb injury.
McCown got his first and only start in the season finale against the Vikings, completing 15 of 25 passes for 160 yards with one touchdown and one interception in the Bears 17-13 win.

CHICAGO (CBS) – The Bears will continue to evaluate the condition of Jay Cutler on Monday after the quarterback suffered a concussion during the first half against the Houston Texans on Sunday.
Bears coach Lovie Smith told WBBM Newsradio’s Josh Liss on Monday morning that it’s too soon to know when Cutler will be cleared to play.
“Really, we are just evaluating right now,” Smith said. “It’s early in the morning, there’s nothing more I can tell you now. There’s a long process that goes into that.”
Smith asked fans to be patient, while doctors determine the severity of Cutler’s injury.
“We’ll never let a player go back out there on the football field until he is ready,” Smith said.
Cutler took a blow to the head on an illegal hit during the second quarter of the Bears’ 13-6 loss on Sunday night.
Doctors determined he suffered a concussion on the play and he did not return for the second half.

This is a huge mistake. Mccown is a Martz system guy, which is why he was serviceable for us last season. He wont be any good in this offense, but then again no one is.

I can give you 2, Shaun Hill and David Garrard, I bet there are others also. JM was never worth brining back.

The Tice offense is not much different than the Martz offense. That is why he was brought in. He at least half way understands the system. Is he that good? No. But likely a better fit for an emergency basis

And if we ever get down to our 3rd string QB from Cutler, we're probably screwed anyway.
Trestman - Kromer - Tucker - DeCamillis
I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.

Exactly. The 3rd string QB is waving the white flag
