Hester has some great years left as a returner. If you maximize his utility at this ONE position he is more of a game changer than he would ever be at wr. Imagine if he were only a KR or used only here and there how much more games would have changed.
Ok, here's my compromise position for 2013 then:
1) Make DH a returner ONLY. Announce it publicly as in "Devin Hester will be a ST player for us this season. Expect him to see few if any snaps on offense." End of story. I don't want to hear any more bullshit about how he's lighting it up in training camp, how his hands and route-running have 'improved', how there's now a special 'package' of plays for him, etc, etc.
2) His contract will have to be re-worked accordingly to reflect this.
3) Since, I assume Knox will never be back to 100%, draft a burner kid in the 4th (a la TY Hilton) to be a speed threat, #4 WR, and backup ST returner. It'd be nice if he has good hands and a decent WR coach to develop him like we see teams across the NFL do every year.
4) Cut Weems.
5) Strongly consider finding a real TE.

That being said Hester should imo take a paycut and be KR/PR and not WR because we don't know how to use him and he shouldn't be paided like a 1# WR when he clearly isn't one.
It would be sad to see Hester leave the Bears but if he stands in the way in form of salary cap to obtain a LT such as Long/Bushrod I'd give him up, at this point he is not worth the money he is getting paid.
How many times does this need to be repeated. He's not being paid like a #1 WR! He makes about the same kind of money that Bennett does and given the fact that he's a HOF KR/PR guy I would say that isn't being over paid.
That big contract Angelo gave him had mucho incentives in it that would only be earned IF he became a top WR but he hasn't so they've gone unearned. So he's fairly paid......end......of.....story.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

I think that is the problem w/a lot of people have w/Devin, they think whathe is making is more then it actually is. Also, people expect him to make mistakes, so when he does they exagerate what actually happens.
Guys all year he's only averaged 2-4 targets a game, before and after AJ went out. Only 1 x did he not get targeted, only 1x did he get targetted more then 4 times. Getting so few touches is not ever going to hurt the team. He's not getting put on PR/KR only, it's not happening, we have no one else on this team that has his speed. It'd be different if Knox was healthy, but he's not. We have big, at best, average speed WR's outside of Devin.
He's going to continue to get targetted 2-4 times a game, because there is a chance, that he can make a big play happen. And he cannot make that happen on ST's when the other team won't kick to him.
He's not doing near as bad as some of you are making him out to be; go pull other #4 wr #'s and you'll see he's pretty average at what he's being asked to do. He's right in line w/the Eddie Royals for the world.
