He must be one hell of a player if he can tell running full out the a QB has stepped of the line. Of course I don't know what that had to do with hitting him head to head since you can't do that regardless of where someone is on the field.

The biggest thing that gets me is the ref reviewing seemed like he only took a few seconds to "confirm" Cutler was over the line. which I never understood anyways due to the closeness of Jay's release and the LOS. I was watching on AFN so shit could have been delayed, but it still seemed like the call of an illegal forward pass wasn't given it's due dilligence.

I just hope both teams make it to the SB. Sweet revenge.

The call was terrible all around. JC was definitely legal on that forward pass (his back foot was not past the LoS) and the review official took the pussy way out by "confirming" that the live action call was correct. It wasn't and that's what replay is supposed to be about. That erased a 40 yard pass play to the 5 and a huge momentum shift.

To add insult, explain to me how a flagrant PF penalty is negated by an over-the-line call? There needs to be a rule change for that type of situation. Ridiculous to equate those two fouls and offset them. Even if the forward pass call was made and upheld, the PF should have been enforced (it was a personal foul regardless of whether JC passed or ran). Net it out for 10 yards and an auto first down.

Without the color line it was too close to overturn. Shit, even with the colored line you could barely tell he was behind the line.

As fat as offsetting penalties that has always been the case. A simple holding call negating a big pass interference play happens all the time. I am sure the Bears have benefitted on these instances as well. Off setting penalties will not change. Flags cancel each other out.

Well, once again, in all fairness the angle he took had him looking right at the sideline markers...but like you say and I agree, that has nothing to do with penalty....

I undertand having holding and pass interference offset, but personal fouls should be enforced over other penalties. As a defender, if you see a flag go down for holding, just spear the QB in the chin and knock him out of the game. You'll get a $30k fine, but he leaves the game and the penalties offset, so you don't cost the team. A cheapshot on the QB is not the same as an illegal forward pass. It's much more severe.

It actually does matter. If he is beyond the line of scrimmage than he becomes a runner and their is no head to head rule.

Yeah, but he is not like a normal runner because he threw the ball (illegally, but it was a blown call). Even if he made an illegal pass across the line, he is still the QB and is still protected from getting a shot to the head three steps after he releases the ball.

Well, that's the thing. He insisted that he didn't hit Cutler. Cutler hit him.

uh huh. Cutler decided that he wasn't so much worried about throwing the ball. He decided that the best way to win was to punish the guys helmet with his jaw and see if he could take him out of the game to give us a better shot at winning.

    Cutler is so shrewd....
