Dobbins Fined $30k For Hit on Cutler................

Texans’ Tim Dobbins fined $30,000 for hit on Jay Cutler

Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler (6) is helped up by teammates after he threw an illegal forward pass and was hit by Houston Texans linebacker Tim Dobbins during the first half of an NFL football game, Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, in Chicago. An NFL spokesman confirmed that Houston Texans linebacker Tim Dobbins was fined $30,000 Wednesday for his helmet-to-helmet hit on Bears quarterback Jay Cutler on Sunday night. ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to report Dobbins’ fine.

Cutler remained in the game after Dobbins’ hit, which occurred late in the second quarter, but did not return for the second half. The Bears believe Cutler suffered his concussion on the hit.

Cutler has not officially been ruled out for the Bears’ matchup against the San Francisco 49ers on Monday. Coach Lovie Smith said Wednesday at Halas Hall that Cutler was feeling better, but still being evaluated.

Smith, though, wouldn’t say what Cutler, who has had multiple concussions, is currently able to handle. The Bears didn’t practice on Wednesday. “Jay is getting better — that’s all I can say right now,” Smith said. “I’m not going to go into each step he’s taking. I think you can understand why.

“We’ll be back on the practice field [Thursday]. We can give you a little bit better ideal of where he is then. As much as anything, without going on the practice field, he’s getting better — like all of our guys are.”

The Bears re-signed Josh McCown to back up Jason Campbell, who took over for Cutler in the second half against the Texans. “We’ll see [about my role],” McCown said Wednesday. “It’s obviously all based off Jay’s health. I’ll just get ready as usual and see what happens.”

Dobbins said Sunday night that he felt Cutler ran into him, although replays clearly showed otherwise. (Yeah it clearly did. Funny how the camera catches everything huh?)

“I just felt like he was going to take off running with the ball and I thought he was past the line,” Dobbins said. “I did not hit him in his head. ... And actually, he did. He ran into me! How about that?” (How about that? How about your full of shit and the league agrees.)

Dobbins also didn’t like that he was penalized for the hit. “I thought it was a bad flag because I really didn’t even hit him,” he said, “nor did I lead with my head.” (LOL, what color is the sky in your world. He didn't just fall down or sustain a concussion on his own boyo.)

Petty justice since we lost our starting QB and quite possibly the game because of it but better than no justice at all. I know he'd like to deny that it was a penalty but they don't get anymore obvious than that. That happened at center stage on the big screen and few would agree with him.

I'm just as upset or more upset because I believe the officials blew the call. Cutler's left foot wasn't over the line when he released the ball and it should have been a completed pass. I know how they ruled on the field and all it came down to was there not being enough there to over rule it but I still believe we got hosed on it.

Cutler knew right where he was and waited until the last minute to release the ball knowing full well that he was gonna take a shot for doing it. He makes a big play along with Hester and we get stiffed on the call. Just another in a series of bad breaks that kind of came in bunches.

The more Dobbins whines and cries over this, the more respect I lose for him. He's even blaming Cutler for the hit, saying Cutler "ran into him" and got the concussion.

    Right.

Shut up. Pay your fine. Pull up your "big boy" pants. Move on.

As much as he is being a bitch, Dobbins would gladly take that fine anyday. A $30,000 fine for taking the other team's QB out of the game and assuring your team a win? Great. I don't think the Texans have a bounty system, but you know some teammate is going to take him out for a nice steak dinner because of that hit.

Like to see what that Texan fan that called me a sore loser about the hit has to say.

Did the hit cost us the game? JCUT has the highest QB rating in the NFL in the fourth quarter.

That is not a bad hit, if anything it is bad timming when Jay throws the ball and Dobbins hits him a little late. Had he hit Jay at full speed I would say we would be saying it is cheap but this one is more unfortunate he hit him high.

The ball was clearly out of his hands ... he shouldnt have hit him at all.

Now he's $30'000 lighter in the wallet.

Go back and look at it, JCUT tossed the ball ,he had his throwing arm halfway up,he wasnt trying to protect himself,he never expected to get hit.

I think he knew he was gonna get hit alright. When you see a LB bearing down on you like Dobbins was and you know you're gonna release the ball at the last second you know you're going down.

Dobbins probably couldn't have avoided him completely but he did nothing to avoid hitting him square and with his helmet in Jay's grill. So was the hit unavoidable? I'd say yes but the manner it was carried out wasn't legal.

For Dobbins to claim that Jay ran into him is ludicrous. The replay shows what happened, he got fairly nailed for roughing and that's that. The bitter part of it is losing him because of that play and then having the officials blow it and drop a flag.

I agree with just about everything you said Soul. I can't blame the officials for blowing the past the line of scrimmage call. They do not have that colored line on replays, and it was too close to over turn without it.

Did Cutler run into Dobbins? In reality no, in Dobbins mind he did. Most defenders would be expecting the QB to slide instead of staying on their feet. That may be what he is alluding to.

I am NOT defending the helmet to helmet hit, he deserved to get fined and flagged. But the hit was late in the terms of it being after Jay let go of the ball, but it was a second after. Kinda hard to stop on a dime. If he had not of led with his helmet, Cutler would not have been concussed, and the play likely doesn't even get flagged.
