That's my take on it too, German.
Fans often see things in stark black-and-white. No shades of gray. Most things in life are not that simple.
Tice certainly needs to improve his play calling. But there are other variables at work here, that do have an impact on plays working or failing. This 2012 offense is a work in progress. It has its 3rd offensive coordinator in the last 4 years (not good). Continuity and familiarity between players and an offensive system is a huge benefit. Fans don't want to hear this, but building a solid offense is not something you perfect in 9 games of your first season.
We also have seen significant change in key personnel over recent years in general, and THIS year in particular. We have definitely upgraded WR's. But at the same time we have the #32nd ranked offensive line in the NFL, for the second straight year. We have TE's who can't block or catch. We have a key WR, Devin Hester, who probably isn't a NFL-level talent at WR. He's a great special teams player, but never has shown anything at WR.
You stir all of this into the pot and you realize it's a bit delusional to expect much good to come from this offense this year. Fans don't want to hear that, but it's reality.
I don't think you can lay much blame on Tice for the disappointing offense, 9 games into his first season with this mess - I believe this goes beyond him alone. Yes, he has to do better. No, the play execution probably won't be great this year.
My hope is that by the playoffs, this offense has incrementally improved to the point we can have some success this year in the playoffs. Then, this off season, let Emery take the 2nd step in improving the personnel on offensive. Fix the offensive line and get NFL-quality TE's in place (not the wannabe's on our present roster). Cutler and his receivers will be a lot better going into next year's season with better protection for Jay, and WR's more experienced in our system (and no Devin Hester at WR).
That's my 2-cents worth.

I don't think it's fair to just dump all over Tice but there are legit criticisms to be made and what you said here is one of them. I'm just a dumb fan but even I could see it and was screaming it at the TV. Houston was keying on Forte and the conditions made his style of running difficult. Bush was utterly under-utilized in that game.
I also criticize Tice for mismanaging his RBs and Bennett/Hester in general pretty much all year. We have discussed it many times here how his playcalling and personnel usage could be a whole lot better. Hasn't happened yet.
I'm assuming Campbell is starting on Monday night. I wanna see a lot better use of our RBs and a lot less use of Hester in the offense for sure.

Here is what i would like to know. Does 90% of the pass plays called have Marshall as the primary receiver, or is Cutler just looking for him 90% pf the time?
If they dont have confidence in Hester, which they shouldnt, put Bennett on the outside! Bennett isnt out there near enough and he is by far better than Hester. Cutler used to throw to Bennett quite a bit when he was healthy. Bennett had a nice stretch last year before Cutler got hurt. Just doesnt add up...oh wait, sounds like Lovie Smith at his best!

We should have Jeffery back.
We have RB's that we dont use ... and WR's that we dont use ... and TE's that we dont use ... fuckin weird.

Fact: Tice looks like giant penis with ears.

Well, there's a reason we don't use our TE's. As far as the rest, it's a Tice mystery.

While I do think that Tice needs to improve,I also think that players need to execute.
The Texans game was an aberration,it seemed like the Bears were snakebit from the start.
But,by failing to execute,(or hang onto the ball) they dug a hole they couldn't get out of.
Unlike many others,I don't think the better team won,I think the Bears failed to take
advantage of what was there to take.
The picks and the fumbles could have been overcome, considering the final score.
That hole was not so deep, that it couldn't be escaped.

And this brings us back to the age old discussion of how much blame or credit should you ever really put on a HC, OC, DC ect. In the end, it is the players who succeed or fail. If they are able to properly execute said game plan, the HC, OC, and DC look like geniuses. If the players fail, the HC, OC, and DC look like idiots.
