It's important to remember there are 2 seasons - regular & post.

The Giants are the poster boys for this fact. Once we get into the playoffs (and we will), we start a fresh new season - the season that REALLY counts. We're having some growing pains on offense, and definitely need to improve by the playoffs. But I am confident we will be a significantly better offense at that point. With our defense being elite, we can be a really solid playoff team if the offense can just continue to improve between now and then.

We need to enter the playoffs healthy though.

I'm not putting too much worry into this past loss. Maybe I'm an idiot, but it really doesn't mean we had an epic challenge to our overall goal of having a great year. In fact, we may look back on this as a turning point for the better. Maybe it's a "reality check" and a wake up call on offense for Tice to call a better game. Only time will tell.

Indeed there are two seasons. Some teams like the Giants can "turn it on" at will. Teams such as this possess dimensions that we as of yet do not. It is imperative that this team work towards the goal of improving it's playcalling, devising better tactical gameplans, and find better ways to minimize weaknesses.

You are what you practice the most. I don't want it to get to a point where come playoff time they are just beginning to change the playcalling or finally having that light bulb go on. NOW is the time to do these things. Saying indirectly that this is just ONE season and can be forgotten is somewhat false as what happens now is interwoven with the future.

My main point is that the Bears offense is a "work in progress" during this regular season. It will get better. By the playoffs, this could be a much better offense. It's too early to make final judgement on the offense at this point.

And it's been an offense that has either been stagnant and or has regressed at certain points. I truly believe it can get better but just not to the point where it takes some type of quantum leap. If the O does improve it will be in small steps. And I just don't know if that in itself will be enough to bridge the gap.

This game imo will be the most telling as weather or not Tice can counter (or show signs of life) the template that Houston has shown to beat us.

Not only does he have to show signs of being able to counter the other teams defensive strategies, BUT HE NEEDS TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT REAL TIME DURING THE GAME - not after a week of looking at film for the next game. Otherwise, it will be a short trip in the postseason

There might be two seasons but there is only 5 teams in the NFC to make it into the second season, we have to be one of them.

Yeah I'm in complete agreement with you on both scores. We never expected to get through this season with only one loss and this was team we knew would be a challenge. All things considered we stood up quite well to that challenge in many regards but the breaks went the other way and we got beat. Meh. We beat Carolina because the breaks went our way so call it karma.

If there's any reality to lightning NOT striking twice in the same place then maybe the injuries we've sustained on offense happening as early in the season as they have is a good omen. We've lost games from our top players (Forte, Bennett, Jeffery, and now Cutler) and still sit at 7-2 right now. Plus I see this as an opportunity to get Campbell a little more in synch with the others this week. Whether he plays Monday night or Cutler plays it's pretty obvious the Campbell needs more reps with the 1st team.

The line showed some real improvement this past week, especially Carimi, so once again they're moving in the right direction (if it stays that way) and we also found out that there needs to be a change made at TE. When a team brings 8 into the box to stop the run and wants the FS to cover Marshall over the top it leaves the middle of the field less protected and a good TE can exploit that. Tice tried but Davis let him down and the team down. Grab some pine Kellen. Next batter up!

If the offense stays at it maybe by the playoffs they'll begin to peak and cause other teams some concerns. Let's hope for that and that we don't lose any key guys from the defense. We're still in the hunt big time.
