the only type of hits that i have a problem with are ones that occur after a play, after a QB has released the ball, etc. There is no excuse to hit a player after the fact.
The "problem" with helmet to helmet hits is not that they are "cheap" or "dirty," but that they are DANGEROUS. Football is a dangerous sport and the h2h rule is there to help reduce injuries, but this is a sport where hits are going to happen, people are going to be injured.
I played HS Football for 4 years and it was a very small school. I gave and received several helmet to helmet hits and I did not think any were intentional. The players were all moving too fast and reacting instinctively to make the play. In that split second right before a collision, one or both players may move their head one way or the other a mere inch or two and that can make the difference between a helmet to helmet and a shoulder pad to shoulder pad hit. Furthermore, when you are going to hit someone, you have no way of knowing what movement THEY are going to make, so you may be targeting a shoulder pad to their Sternum and sudenly they juke or duck and you ar colliding helmet to helmet. Even if you see it coming in that last 0.005 second, it's too late to adjust. Now, that is based on small school high school ball. So, how fast do those minor moves occur at the professional level with world class athletes as opposed to slow Central Illinois farm boys. I understand that this is all for safety, and I suggest in a different thread, we should all remember Dave Duerson and those like him that suffer from the effects of numerous concussions, but I don't see how it is humanly possible to avoid these periodic plays in this type of game. Guys are trying to hit hard, that's part of the game; it's my opinion that less than 5% to 10% of helmet to helmet hits are intentional so many of these fines are unfair to defensive players.
If the league wants to make it safer, it's going to have to come from technology, not rules.
Make helmets illegal...problem solved...

I'm sorry Loki and 4th but to think that the NFL was ever more dangerous, more bad ass, or LESS PUSSIFIED than the other football from around the world is really silly.

There was a time in our country that American football players were complete badasses. It was when the padding was almost nonexistent and helmets were made of leather. However, the game that most of us enjoy is the one where the players come out onto the field like gladiators. They're in padding from head to toe and they use their helmets to inflict punishment on their opponents. To say that the game today is "pussified" compared to the game 10 years ago is just plain silly. Especially in light of the fact that there are football players in the world that deliver and receive hits that would destroy most of the guys that we all watch on Sunday in this country.
