I am a little surprised he is that low. I would have thought closer to 20, but he has not been very effective so I guess that unfortunately I am not all that surprised.

He's been dragged down by a few truly terrible games statistically (GB, Hou) and a fair number of avoidable TOs. Bennett has been overlooked. Hester has been over-targeted. There have been too many drops. The OL was a sieve there for a while. The running game has been disappointing. And on and on...

Stats can often lie,and in this case they do.
Cutler is 7-1 in 2012,and that with a stout defense;and a porous offensive line.
Drops kill the QB rating too,and there has been a ton of them.
Which QB is #1 in the 4th quarter? oh yeah,Cutler.

Yeah, stats do lie. Or don't tell the whole story anyway unless you dig a little deeper. Jay has made too many mistakes no doubt but more often than not he has been let down by his surrounding cast. His protection has been awful more often than adequate. His receivers have dropped too many catchable balls (inclusing a couple of TDs). His running game has been mismanaged and ineffective. And several of his picks are attributable to miscues by the intended receivers. Its been a horror show out there on O as much as the D has made it one for our opponents.

Those are good points. We are 7-2, but Cutler has definitely struggled so far. Without that "stout defense" we'd be screwed right now. It's not all on Cutler, but he's not played well.

I love how people blindly say that the statistics are lying and then promptly point to our record (another statistic lol). It is not valid to say that we are 7 - 2 and nothing else matters. The entire point of recording statistics is to attempt to predict the likelihood of future success.
QBR is not perfect but its pretty darn comprehensive. If someone is averaging as low as Cutler is this season over as many games as they have played then he is bad, plain and simple (or at least playing bad).
The only statistic that is lying is that 4th quarter statistic you cited. Of course he does well when the other team is so whooped they don't have any fight left in them or they are in some crappy prevent D that allows him to make completion after completion.
I always tell people I want to live to be 150 and they say "why would you want to do that?" I say, "well, there's a few people I haven't made mad yet, I want to get them."

Michael Vick has a higher QBR than John Elway....
