The Bears are who we thought they were.

We've said all season long, that we couldn't count on great defensive play every game. The defense can't be counted on to carry our offense every game. Even the best defenses have off days.

This is why you need a decent offense too.

Pathetic play by an offense just makes a night like last night, even worse for the defense. We needed to be moving the chains, eating clock time, and scoring points. Instead we had our "Bears Offense" which lacks an offensive line.

Without an offensive line, the skill positions are useless. Campbell took a horrific physical beating last night. Cutler would have too. The oline was exposed for what they are - bad players. We said at the beginning of the season, the oline would be the limiting factor for our season. Last night was the "reality check" that this team, this season, is crippled by having the bad oline.

    It's a shame.

    Our problem isn't our defense.

It wasn't Campbell. Cutler would have been just as bad behind that oline.

Our #1 problem is our offensive line - the #32 oline in the NFL. The skill players can't overcome an oline that bad. The defense can't either. We knew this coming into the season.

Emery needs to fix the oline this off season. It is our #1 problem. We all knew this, going into this season. Tice tried to convince us that you could just reach into the toilet and get a great oline player. Just reach in and pull out a stinky one, dust it with pixie dust, and coach it up.

But in reality it's just a bunch of players who stink.

    Go Bears!

There's been a lot of talk about the Oline today, and I agree that they played pathetic, but that's not the only reason we lost. Beyond the o-line catastrophy is as follows.

Number one was play calling. We literally have the designed plays of a pop warner team, and use them as such. Yes, we ran the ball quite a bit, but it was the same goddam play every time. Spaeth in motion, run the ball off the guard on that side. I think I saw that play at least 8 times. There was no setting up plays or any strategy behind any play. It was as if tice looked at his card and just picked one of his bland ass playes and ran it. The pass plays were all out routes. I don't recall seeing one slant route or hardly anything over the middle. No adjustment at half time. Third and three? Shotgun! Every freaking time. Half assed play action fakes, etc.

Number two is that Cambel blows. His pocket presence sucks beyond belief, he threw the ball behind almost every receiver (the forte pass in the middle was all cambel's fault), his field vision is horrible. Everyone during the offseason was calling for a "vet" backup. Very few of us were saying that you don't put a vet behind a vet, you groom potential youth. Turns out that we just got our asses handed to us by a well groomed youth QB. He looked like montana against our Top Tier defense.

Hester doesn't belong on offense at all. His effort to get back to the ball on that pick was lackluster. He turned as if he didnt' even expect the ball to be there. Also, someone needs to show him how is effective returns don't come from dancing around, they came from speed bursts through tight holes.

Now back to the O-line. Were do I even start. That safety play was a three man rush. Not only did one guy get to cambel, but all three freaking guys got to him. The entire line just collapsed. The backside blocking wasn't there, the interior blocking wasn't there, and nobody cold stop the edge rush. I can't point out one good thing.

The team, like all teams, has areas that need improvement. But it comes down to the fact that with a solid oline, we have a Super Bowl contender. But the oline is so horrible that it limits how much this team can accomplish this season.

We can beat bottom-feeders. We've done that. But we can't beat good teams. Not with this oline.

The other problems are important, but not at important as the oline woes. The oline is our "terminal illness" this year. It will ultimately kill our season.

You were right all along about the OL. I was wrong. I ate crow thoroughly in the other aptly named thread on the subject.

It's so pathetic to see Cutler, Forte, Bush, Marshall, Jeffery, and Bennett so completely wasted because our line is utterly incapable of either acceptable pass or run blocking.

You can try and gel crap together but in the end you still have a large pile of crap. This offensive line is what is holding this offense back. This team will get only as far as the defense can shutdown the opponent's offense. When the Bears offense is playing from behind the opposing team just tees-off at the quarterback. I don't care what quarterback you put back there, this offense will not work with this terrible line.

Need to bring in a OL in FA and two in drafts. We need that more than an MLB imo.. Just keep your fingers crossed that Urlacher can hold on for a year or two more..
We knew the Oline was shit but even tho it's shit 10 games into the season they should play better than at the preseason... sure there has been some improvement but it's just not enough.

The biggest concern I had after the game was the defense and the ability to adjust to a good game plan. We all knew the Ol was suspect and I had not seen anything from Cambell to give me any confidence, but I expected to be able to shut down THEIR offence with our defense and be able to stay in the game.

They pounded our D like it was the boy scouts. I simply did not expect that. And we had no answer from Marinelli. I did not expect that either. Those two things bother me. The other stuff was not fun, but it was not unexpected either.

The defense had a really horrific night. But even good defenses can have an off night. The defense is the least of our worries. It's like a terminally ill cancer patient stubbing his toe. Yeah, the toe hurts, but the cancer is killing you.

Our offensive line is our cancer in 2012. Yes, it is ultimately going to kill our season.

99, we'll have to disagree there. The lack of adjustment is worrisome. We did not know how to make adjustments. In a playoff game that is critical - it could be the difference between a win and a loss.

And I was not saying that I am not more worried about the O than I am the D. All I was saying was that I half way expected the O to suck, but I did not expect that from the D.
