What's bates going to do that Tice isn't? If the OL cannot block, or consistantly open holes for the RB what plays can the OC call? and besides, the point of brining in Bates was to help Tice w/setting up the pass plays, what makes you think this is somehow all on Tice and not on Bates as well? Both have failed, b/c the OL has failed.
btw, what happend to we don't need Forte anymore now that we have Bush/Marshal and Cutler? Funny how that story stopped getting told about 3 weeks into the season and it was we need more Forte. He's this teams cowbell, and the team needs to run more through him; and not just rushes, but pass plays where he is out in the field taking on lb's or db's.

Soul, I'm not saying I disagree with you. Not at all. I'm just saying I don't think it will happen.
I'm personally angry. I'm angry over a lot of things, including the play calling. But I'm really most upset because it's the age old problem of the Bears oline woes. This is the 3rd year of being at or near the bottom of the NFL with our oline.
It gets old.

I'm not going to blame Bates for anything. It stats w/the head guy then the OC. You know the OC who stood pat in the draft, got promoted for what IMPROVING the line? A stubborn guy who foists Webb upon us week after week you know well he isn't going to give up any power.
When is Tice's "coming to Jesus" meeting? Martz got one.

I think that you're aiming too low, sfb. Grab your pitchfork and pay a visit to the McCaskeys.

i guess its a moot point now but I can't see how cutler and marshal couldn't work with martz. Even the te position looked better under martz lol
Cutler didn't like Martz and I doubt Marshall would have liked him much either. Besides Cutler and Marshall aren't the problem are they? The sooner everyone accepts that fact that during his entire tenure as the Bears HC Lovie and/or Angelo during his tenure as well have done an absolutely miserable job of handling the offense of this team.
We've had horrible OCs and Martz was one. Now we have another whose learning on the job. Screw the players. Draft and OC and staff who know wtf they're doing. Give Cutler another present next year to go along with Marshall and a vet All Pro LT. Get him a fucking decent OC for a change.

Oh for Christ sake how would I know what Bates can do that Tice can't. He hasn't done it yet. Maybe nothing but maybe we should let him try anyhow. Ya think? I mean HE actually has been an OC and play caller before during the one year in his career that Cutler did get chosen to a Pro Bowl along with Marshall. Maybe, just thinkin' out loud here, just maybe he can figure out how to repeat that little trick since Tice doesn't seem to have a fuckin' clue how to do it.
If the guy didn't have some kind or a previous track record of success as an OC that Tice doesn't have why would I have even bothered to mention it Ric? You insult my intelligence when you post crap like that. You think I just picked the idea off the top of my head like I chose a pair of sox to wear this morning. You should know me better than that by now!
You want an answer to the rest now? OK. It's Tice's line. Three of those five guys is playing because he's Tice's pick to click. Maybe Rachal as well since he moved him into his starting spot at LG. He built that line and HE needs to take the responsibility for it and it's problems. They were improving last year with lesser players when he was just coaching the line but now that he's running the whole show with seemingly better talent they're back to playing like they're on a seesaw again. One week up and one week down. No consistency anywhere in sight.
So.....let him keep his title of OC and as the HMIC of the offense let him start working on what he does seem to know how to do. Figure out where the real problems are and start getting that line in decent shape. Maybe just maybe if he gets that fixed the rest of the offense may improve. It's time to stop spending time looking at game films just to draw little Xs and Os on the board and design even more plays that either don't work or can't be executed by HIS guys!
Let Bates take care of that. He knows how and has the track record to back it up. Meanwhile maybe Tice can get Bates, his QB, his All Pro WR and his star RB the blocking they need do their jobs. You can say all you want about this player or that one but in the end it all comes down to coaching. If they're not executing their assignments then they either being asked to do what they can't, they don't understand the assignment to begin with or maybe just maybe....yeah I think this could be it. The plays are poorly designed pieces of crap to begin with because the guy whose designing them got them out of a "Pop Warner Football for Dummies" book. Take you pick Ric. The answer is in there somewhere.

Can anyone honestly tell me if Bates has or has not been calling any plays? For all we know he already is helping call some plays.

Here is the problem Soul. If the Bears make the playoffs, Lovie will be retained. Which means Tice likely gets retained.
Why are we stuck with Tice as our OC this year? Because no OC worth a damn would come into a situation that could have been a one and done situation. That is why we had Martz last go round.
