Gabe Carimi
Benching him I completely disagree with, utterly and totally
He's virtually a rookie and I still think his knee delayed some development this summer but I feel we could still have left tackle for 10 years in him, we have 3 other spots that need free agents and high draft picks
That being said what do you guys think will happen with him long and short term
Today (Minnesota game) our o line looked okay and Allen was held in check by Scott/Webb
I still feel we have more in him then both of theese guys short and long term
So what do you guys think will happen does he
Get his RT job back soon?
Maybe get a look at LT next time Webb, pulls a....well pulls a Webb?
More gaurd?
Or deteriorate on the bench?
I think him and Louis should be a staple for 10 years

I doubt Carimi will stay on the bench for long but with the way he's been playing who knows how long, long will be. One thing for certain though is that he's certainly no LT. He's barely adequate as a pass blocker at RT half the time. The other half he gets steam rolled or run by like he wasn't there.
I think the injury, the long recovery and his inexperience are all contributing factors to his woes as a pass blocker but his run blocking has been pretty stout. I don't think it's reached anywhere near that point yet but maybe his best spot will be on the inside who knows. Too soon to tell yet.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.

He'd make a great LG in my mind.
he is good at blocking the run and got a bit better in pass protection. I'd try it against the Seahawks with the mess or LG spot is.
Webb - Carimi - Garza - Louis (If good to go) - Scott
if no Louis, give Brown a chance. Spencer sucks and has problems himself

I would like to see Carimi play LG and do a great job, that would cut our need to draft or go into FA looing for a starting Guard.
-
on the other side... it would open the need to get a starting RT

Switching Carimi all the way from RT to LG is a HUGE change in mid-season. There's a big difference going from tackle to guard. There is also a big difference going from the right side of the line to the left side of the line. Making BOTH of these changes in the middle of a season with a struggling rookie, is pretty stupid.
The guy is mixed up and struggling already. Watch what happens if you do a mad-scientist move like THIS in mid season. The Bears do some stupid moves, playing guys out of position. But even the Bears are not this stupid. Not mid-season with a guy who's basically a rookie.
p.s. This is how we sometimes screw up young players. I'll always wonder how things would have been different (better) if we had just put C.Will at one position and let him learn it. Musical chairs with your oline isn't a good thing.

I'm looking forward to seeing these guys coach. Hope they're good.

As for Carimi, there are likely still some effects from the knee injury. Notably, last year Carimi was playing at a heavier looking weight. This year he is looking pretty trim. Even if he as lost fat and gained muscle, (i.e. his weight is similar) this would still result in a change of his center of mass, so he would have to play differently.
I'm still of the opinion that he has the talent to play somewhere on this o-line, probably tackle. He may (however) need extra time... (silently)AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGGGG GGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

coming back from a severe knee injury takes time//it looks like gabe is getting there//what ticks me off is this is the second first round offensive tackle to have a knee injury like this//with offensive line players being scarce on da Bears ala first round picks or any team's first round picks those crack back attacks on players knees need to stop//when i played it was pointed out to the other team they also had knees//so jared dude your cheap shot on lance remember your knees aren't made of steel and you can get hit with a so called clean hit//frankly football is hard enough on your body without cheap dirty hits come on man

Like I said in another thread. You bench a guy when he needs it. If it crushes his psyche, esp. for a lineman then you've got some serious problems. You work on your mistakes, prepare, and get ready when your called back up. It's called being a professional.
Arguing on the internet is like winning the special olympics, even if you win your still messed up.
