LINK to the article Bears promote Trahan, sign DE Whiteside LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- The Chicago Bears promoted linebacker Patrick Trahan from the practice squad to the active roster on Wednesday, and signed defensive end Aston Whiteside to the practice squad.
Trahan played in five games for the Bears in 2011, posting five tackles on special teams. Trahan has spent the past 11 weeks on the club’s practice squad.
Whiteside, meanwhile, spent the first five weeks of this season on the practice squad and the majority of the preseason with the club. Whiteside originally came into the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Dallas Cowboys out of Abilene Christian University.

This worries me with Briggs' injury. Why promote a LB unless Briggs' injury was worse than they are letting on?

Yep, and we worked out a LB yesterday too(saw this on espn and put it in the OL thread) didn't see you posted it JABF.
They are interested in LB's.

If Briggs is out we will have a huge drop off there. That would be worrysome.

We all know Briggs will play if he can but it sounds to me like there are some concerns about him. Geno Hayes is behind Briggs and he's a reasonably good player but he's not a Briggs. Trahan is a good STeams guy but not a starter.
If we end up losing Briggs and Tillman for a bit the defense becomes very vulnerable too. The time has come for Cutler to put that offense on his back and carry it and the team. Let's just hope Tice gives him the tools to do it.
I'm getting to that age where a lifetime warranty just doesn't mean as much to me anymore as an afternoon nap.
