    I will say it

We need to replace Urlacher going into next season. Keep him around would be fine, not as starter and we need to draft his replacement. It's either Te'o or Ogletree. Would trade up to get Te'o if he makes it to about #12-#13

I agree that Urlacher doesn't play well, and he didn't play well either yesterday. He had some good tackles in the first quarter of the games but at the end of the game there was plays where I thought this is not Urlacher... I remember one of the commentaters say: Lynch is running almost straight into Urlacher and yet he passes him and gain another 10 yards... not many have done that if ever have.
It would cost us really much to move up and get Te'o I doubt we'll get him and I doubt we'll pick a LB in the first round it will most likely be an OT which we also need.

Newbie here but long time Bears fan. I've been kicking around a thread idea for the past few days but it's pretty comprehensive and may need to be broken into a few threads. I am starting to see the defense age just like everyone else but am kind of getting my head around the notion that in order to comnpete with the high powered teams we will have to invest in and quickly get the Offense up to speed to play well in the current West/Pro style that is pass first priented. What does this mean?

    1. Upgrade the line (Number 1 priority) via the draft and free agency. I think it should be the top item for both agendas.
    2. Carrying on from point 1, we shift the balance of the attack to a more pass oriented scheme next year fully utilizing all the weapons available to JayC. That means Marshall, Jeffery, Bennett, Forte in a variety of play action and across the seam packages to take their skills to the next level. If this is perfected then you hit them deep.
    3. I don't favor abandoning the run completely but in this offense you do 60% pass and 40% run which will spread the ball around a lot more and utilise Forte and Bush in tandem (Essentially get more creative) to keep the opposing D honest.
    4. The D I think would be able to survive in this kind of environment and would give us another year to transform the offense and make it the dominating force on this team. This goes hand in hand with the eventual and current aging of this D whose window for success is slowly diminishing.
    5. Now the important part, all of this is not even fathomable if we don't have a culture change at Halas Hall. This probably means wiping the deck clean with regards to Lovie and Tice but as with all forum posts this is only my opinion and it will depend by and large on what the Bears do over the next 4 weeks and playoffs.

    Thread title edited.

NO CURSING in the non-TBS forums, and especially not in the titles.

A slip here and there throughout a thread is allowable (we understand the frustration). In the titles of threads = NEVER.

According to one of the announcers yesterday BU said if they win a SB this year he'll retire; if not he wants to stick around 1 or 2 more years IF he can compete. Real question is if that acutally is the truth. But if it is, they need to look at long term answers for BU.

No way they trade up for a LB though; sure to hell not in or around the top 10, the cost is WAY to high, and the Bears already down picks. Might have to look via FA if anyone shows up; but it's going to be hard to replace a potential HoF'r regardless of who you bring in.

Yes, JA did not leave the team in a very good situation. Going to take some time to get it really where it needs to be.

The hardest part about replacing Urlacher isn't finding someone who can play MLB at a high level, it's grooming someone to play MLB at a high level in a Tampa 2 defense. And then finding someone with the experience in that defense who can call the play, if need be (which is like, usually). Most likely will be two different people (and might be fun to discuss which of the Bears younger defensive players could be the next Captain), but if it could be the same person, that would be most awesome.

I'd take Shae at LB over DE.

Is it just me, or does it look like Shea has been playing more like a LB? Besides getting less snaps since his head knock, it seems like he is standing up some and doesn't have his ears pin back as much.

I still haven't decided if I'm pleased or disappointed in his progress so far...
