I agree, but here's the problem.

It's a "Jerry Angelo byproduct" in that we have a number of starters who would be riding the pine on other teams. So, if the #2's are worse, then the team has a significant talent problem. And we do. We don't have a decent starter on the entire oline except for Louis (Garza is maybe average at best too). None of these TE's would start on an NFL team. Roach would be a decent #2 LB on most teams, but not a starter. And I don't believe our WR corps is worth crap outside of B.Marsh, Alshon & Bennett.

So here's the deal. We have to get the holes plugged where the starters suck, and then worry about getting higher quality backups.

Without a doubt we need a good starting corp. Maybe in the offseason Emery cleans house and gets what we need in FA and draft. But I think he will get resistance from the Owners when it comes to money.
Without weaponz it's just another airline!

Emery seems to be a very sharp personnel guy. I expect him to be thoughtful about this, and piece by piece he will craft a great team. He's barely had time to get his feet wet so far, yet he's brought in the best WR in the history of the Chicago Bears. He's also backed this up with Alshon Jeffery, who looks like he will be an outstanding complementary WR to B.Marsh. He added a number of other pieces that immediately helped this team get better.

    But it's just a start.

Fans want instant gratification. Rebuilding after the Jerry Angelo years, is going to take a couple of years. Angelo ran this franchise into the ground in the latter years of his tenure here. He dug a BIG hole that the team now has to climb out of.

But I don't expect a radical overnight gutting of the team. We do have some excellent talent mixed with mediocre talent - and some outright garbage. Emery will remove the garbage first. And he will get better overall talent, to build around our solid base.

This is where Angelo failed. Jerry did bring in some good talent, but it was diluted with too much mediocre talent. Emery won't waste time with boutique "projects" like we've seen, that kept us from being an NFL power. I can see that every single personnel move is like a chess move for Emery. Thoughtful. Making the best with what he has to work with. I love how he's been active all season trying to continue to help the team.

This is a lot better than just "reacting" and doing the scorched earth gutting of everything. This is precisely why I'm not thrilled with the thought of gutting our coaching staff, unless Emery feels like Lovie can't take us to Super Bowl wins. Emery isn't a milk-toast guy. He'll lay the law down for Lovie, and curb him in with this OC issue. He'll work with Lovie, but be the lead dog with Lovie. Otherwise, if Lovie doesn't get with the program he'll be let go. That's my gut feeling. Emery has the juice now. Not Lovie (not like in past years anyway).

I believe Virginia wants a Super Bowl win before she dies. I believe the McCaskeys want this for her. George will try to move mountains to get this for his mom. If Lovie isn't the answer in Emery's eyes, then Lovie is toast. But if Lovie buys into Emery's plan for the team - he stays. Lovie needs 3 top coordinators to win. He's not a game day coach. We have 2 of the 3 coordinators in place to take us to a Super Bowl. Obviously Tice is the odd man out here.

Lovie has a "real" boss now who will kick him where it hurts if he doesn't get with the Emery program. The "win a Super Bowl" program.

    That's my 2 cents worth.
