Bears could be preparing for no Urlacher, sign LB DeCicco
The Chicago Bears might be preparing for life without Brian Urlacher on Sunday.
The Chicago Tribune reported Tuesday that the team signed linebacker Dom DeCicco to the 53-man roster, bringing back DeCicco three months after he was released with an injury settlement. Urlacher suffered a right hamstring injury during overtime of the Bears' 23-17 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. Bears coach Lovie Smith said during his Monday press conference that Urlacher had a pulled hamstring. Though DeCicco played some middle linebacker when Urlacher was sidelined with a knee injury in training camp, he's unlikely to fill Urlacher's role if the veteran is forced to sit against the Minnesota Vikings. The Bears finished Sunday's game with Nick Roach in the middle and Geno Hayes sliding into Roach's normal spot at strongside linebacker. DeCicco could fill Hayes' role on special teams. DeCicco had groin surgery earlier in the season and worked out with several teams before returning to Chicago. The terms of his injury settlement dictated he could not return to the Bears until after Week 10.
That'll make it even harder for the Bears but I'm glad to see DeCicco back in Chicago. This kid has got potential and could become a decent linebacker in the right environment.
